Advertisement Closes: 08/01/2026 12:00 AM Pay Grade: Grade 22 Salary: $27.16 - $33.78 per hour Time Type: Full time Health Department: Franklin County Health Department Summary Supervises a staff of environmental health or other health‑related professionals engaged in a comprehensive environmental health program. Performs work of considerable complexity and difficulty with a high level of responsibility and discretion. Responsibilities Supervise and mentor staff of environmental health professionals. Manage environmental health activities, including those that are technically sensitive. Handle personnel functions such as preparing performance appraisals, evaluating employee performance, approving and monitoring leave usage, and conducting job interviews. Provide on‑the‑job training for new personnel. Counsel employees on relevant issues, including disciplinary actions when appropriate. Ensure compliance with administrative rules and regulations. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, with a minor or at least 24 semester hours in environmental health, biological or physical science, or registration as a Kentucky Environmental Specialist/Sanitarian under KRS 223. Minimum of four (4) years of experience in the environmental field. Valid driver’s license. Must become registered under the provisions of KRS 223 within a reasonable time; maintain that registration while employed. Must obtain specific credentials outlined in the job requirements within a reasonable time, and maintain them while employed. Participation in annual continuing education classes. Additional Requirements Work may be performed in indoor and outdoor settings. Applicants and employees may be required to submit to a drug screening test and background check per agency policies. Probationary Period This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
