Senior Social Worker

Overview This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) - a student loan repayment program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program approval provides an award amount (up to $200,000) and an eligibility period (one to five years). Details are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application. Qualifications Basic Requirements include: United States Citizenship (non-citizens may be appointed when qualified citizens cannot be recruited in accordance with VA policy); English Language Proficiency (proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. § 7403(f));Education: master’s degree in social work from a CSWE-accredited program (graduates of candidacy-status schools do not meet the requirement until full accreditation); a doctoral degree cannot substitute for the master’s degree; verification of degree can be performed at the CSWE accreditation site; Licensure: must be licensed or certified by a state to independently practice social work at the master’s degree level; current state requirements can be found at the VA OHRM site; Grandfathering Provision applies to current VHA employees meeting criteria; review the qualification standard for specific education and licensure requirements; employees meeting but not all basic requirements may be reassigned or promoted within the occupation under grandfathering; those appointed temporarily must meet basic requirements before extension or reappointment; personnel grandfathered into this occupation must maintain credentials; if an employee leaves and reenters, they must meet current requirements. Grade Determinations for Senior Social Worker – GS-12: two years of post-advanced practice clinical licensure experience with at least one year at GS-11 level; advanced practice skills, expertise in a specialty area, and potential certification or post-master’s training; Licensure/Certification must be at an advanced practice level (with supervision for licensure, unless grandfathered); Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs) include: specialized interventions and treatments; ability to handle complex differential diagnosis; outcome measurement and service improvement; ability to provide specialized consultation; ability to expand clinical knowledge and contribute to policies/procedures/guidelines; refer to VA Qualification Standards for more information. Duties Provide clinical program development responsibilities and contribute to program effectiveness, including potential administrative duties in geriatrics and dementia care with a focus on service quality and equity of access. Collaborate with treatment teams to deliver comprehensive health care services to Veterans and coordinate care with VA facilities and community partners. Develop, evaluate, and communicate standards, policies, procedures, and plans of care for geriatrics programs including dementia care; educate colleagues and students about geriatrics services. Evaluate geriatrics and dementia care practices against VA statutes and VHA regulations; address identified deficiencies; track program assessments, consultations, authorizations, statistics, data management, and documentation; report caseload and productivity metrics; support trainings as needed. Provide ongoing supportive counseling to Veterans and their caregivers to address psychosocial impacts of chronic or disabling illness, catastrophic illness, or end-of-life care; assist with non-institutional and institutional service planning. Accept additional assignments to meet geriatrics and extended care service goals and customer needs; adhere to a Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM schedule.
