Environmental Scientist

Job Description This is an opportunity to join Stantec in Charlotte, North Carolina as a wetland delineator. You will perform fieldwork and technical support for services related to jurisdictional waters (streams and wetlands), natural resources inventories, permitting, permitcompliance, regulatory support and other environmental programs. You will also write reports, develop plans, and implement steps to move projects toward closure in the most cost effective manner. Your Key Responsibilities Work closely with a team of wetland delineators Conduct stream and wetland delineations and assessments Prepare Requests for Jurisdictional Determinations Map and assess vegetation communities and habitat quality Participate and conduct listed species surveys Write technical reports Assist with environmental assessments, permitting, and compliance for a wide variety of projects and clients Participate in multi-disciplinary environmental planning and assessments Develop and maintain positive client and agency relationships Qualifications Your Capabilities and Credentials Minimum of 1-3 years of field experience (preferred) delineating streams and wetlands according to US Army Corps of Engineers Manual, appropriate Regional Supplements and NCDWR methodology Must have a professional and/or academic background in ecology, environmental science, wetlands, botany, soil science, or other related field Knowledge of flora and fauna Proficient with computers and Microsoft Office Experience with GPS data collection technology a plus Some travel, including overnight travel, is expected for this position Skill in technical writing as well as environmental research and analysis Able to communicate effectively and function as part of a team Interest in ecosystems, natural resources, and the outdoors is essential Ability to solve problems using critical thinking and practical problem solving Ability to complete field work with consideration to their own and the team's safety Ability to prioritize project needs and adapt to changing schedules Ability to work outside in all types of weather conditions Education and Experience Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, or related field. Demonstrated ability with plant, soil and wetland identification and characterization in the region. Minimum 1-3 years’ work experience preferred; or an equivalent combination of education (e.g.advanced degree) and experience. Co-op / Internship experience preferred. Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather. Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
