Job Title: Pump Mechanic Job Description

This role offers a hands-on opportunity for an energetic, eager individual with mechanical aptitude, ideally with experience working on cars or repairing pumps. You will disassemble, inspect, document, repair, and reassemble a wide variety of pumps used across different industries, starting with simpler units and progressing to more complex systems as you gain experience. You will train alongside a senior team member, learn structured repair processes, and use digital tools to record data and photos. After the training period, you will perform both in-shop work and local field service work throughout Michigan.

• Disassemble pumps safely and systematically using appropriate hand and power tools.
• Inspect pump components, identify wear or damage, and document findings with detailed photos and notes.
• Repair and reassemble pumps according to blueprints, work instructions, and established procedures.
• Use quality tools such as micrometers and feeler gauges to measure components and verify tolerances.
• Follow mechanical assembly procedures to ensure pumps are rebuilt correctly and operate reliably.
• Utilize a tablet and computer systems to record repair data, upload photos, enter comments, and track work in the ERP system, SharePoint, and Outlook.
• Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and work instructions to guide repair and assembly activities.
• Work closely with a senior mechanic during the initial training period, starting with simpler pumps and progressing to more complex equipment.
• Participate in ride-alongs for field service work during the training phase to learn on-site troubleshooting and repair.
• Perform local field service work at customer locations once trained, including troubleshooting and repairing pumps in the field.
• Operate and eventually become certified to use Hi-Lo and cranes to move and position pumps and related equipment safely.
• Maintain an organized work area and follow safety protocols in an industrial, non-climate-controlled environment.
• Demonstrate consistent attendance, reliability, and a positive attitude while working collaboratively as part of a small team.
• Meet at the shop at the scheduled start time and complete day trips, typically returning by late afternoon.
• Use company vehicle and company card for field service work once fully trained and converted to direct status.
• Communicate clearly with team members and supervisors about job status, issues encountered, and parts or tools needed.
• Troubleshoot mechanical issues in pumps and related systems using logical problem-solving and mechanical knowledge.
• Follow all company policies and procedures related to quality, safety, documentation, and customer service.

• Valid driver’s license.
• Demonstrated mechanical aptitude, preferably with experience working on cars or similar mechanical projects.
• Comfort with getting hands dirty and working with pumps and related mechanical equipment.
• Ability and interest in learning pump repair techniques and processes.
• Proficiency using hand tools and power tools for mechanical assembly, disassembly, and repair.
• Ability to efficiently disassemble and reassemble mechanical projects following instructions and best practices.
• Experience using quality tools such as micrometers (mics) and feeler gauges to measure parts accurately.
• Ability to read and understand blueprints and written work instructions.
• Computer savvy, with the ability to learn and use an ERP system.
• Comfort using a tablet to track repairs, upload pictures, and enter comments and notes.
• Ability to use software tools such as SharePoint and Outlook for documentation and communication.
• Strong troubleshooting skills for mechanical systems.
• Ability to work effectively as a team player with a positive, go-getter attitude.
• Reliable attendance and willingness to show up consistently and on time.

• Previous pump repair experience.
• Background in Hi-Lo operation or crane operation; formal certification will be provided and these will be used daily.
• Experience with mechanical assembly in an industrial or shop environment.
• Familiarity with reading schematics related to mechanical or fluid systems.
• Comfort working in a small facility with a close-knit team.
• Ability to adapt to different types of pumps and industries over time.
• Willingness to participate in 1–3 months of in-shop training followed by 3–6 months of on-the-road training with another team member.

The role is based in an industrial, non-climate-controlled shop environment, where you will work with a variety of mechanical and quality tools, including hand tools, power tools, micrometers, feeler gauges, and lifting equipment such as Hi-Lo and cranes. You will also use digital tools including an ERP system, tablets, SharePoint, and Outlook to document your work. The position follows a first-shift schedule, typically starting at 6:00 a.m. and ending around 3:00–4:00 p.m., with a standard 40-hour workweek and occasional overtime that is not guaranteed. Day trips for local field service are common, with rare overnight travel and advanced notice when overnights are needed. The shop operates Monday through Friday with no weekend work, and you will meet at the shop at 6:00 a.m. before heading out on field assignments or starting in-shop tasks.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Oak Park, MI.

The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $25.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.

This is a fully onsite position in Oak Park,MI.
