GENERAL PURPOSE

Performs complex professional work overseeing student conduct, discipline systems, and compliance across the division. This role supports the implementation of behavior systems, ensures adherence to legal and policy requirements, and provides leadership in restorative practices and disciplinary interventions. Work is performed under general supervision, with oversight of the Assistant Director of Student Conduct and Support personnel.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

• Oversee the development, implementation, and coordination of the student conduct program.
• Collaborate on Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) initiatives with a focus on behavioral support.
• Provide guidance and support to MTSS teacher leaders and administrators to ensure fidelity of implementation.
• Support schools in addressing classroom management concerns through:
• • Conflict resolution strategies
  • Identification of antecedent behaviors
  • Implementation of restorative practices
• Assist administrators with data-driven behavioral interventions, including conducting routine behavior audits.
• Partner with schools and In-School Suspension (ISS) Coordinators to implement restorative alternatives to suspension.
• Develop and provide discipline-related communication tools, including assemblies and modules outlining expectations and consequences.
• Oversee responses to drug and alcohol infractions, including intervention, education, and support.
• Serve as a resource to school personnel and families regarding student conduct and discipline procedures.
• Serve as co-grant manager with the Supervisor of Student Support for grants maintained through Student Support Services
• Assist in the collection, review, and submission of required reports to state and federal agencies.
• Maintain strong partnerships with the community and state agencies.
• Stay informed of current research, trends, and innovations in student discipline and restorative practices.
• Support school staff in interpreting legal matters related to subpoenas and custody issues.
• Oversee the collection and analysis of student conduct data to inform decision-making.
• Maintain collaborative relationships with school administrators and stakeholders.
• Supervise the development of reports related to discipline trends and individual student incidents.
• Monitor compliance with all federal, state, and local laws and regulations related to student conduct.
• Oversee and monitor alternative placements related to disciplinary actions, including exclusion cases and prior placements.
• Collaborate with departments to design and deliver professional development for staff.
• Serve in consultation with the Director of Student Support Services and Coordinator of Student Activities to:
• • Conduct division-wide Title IX training
  • Monitor Title IX caseloads
  • Serve as a Title IX intake officer, investigator, or decision-maker, as appropriate
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Master's degree in educational leadership, administration, or a related field
• Considerable teaching experience and administrative/supervisory experience
• Any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge and skills
• Possession of, or ability to obtain, appropriate licensure and endorsements as required by the Commonwealth of Virginia

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

• Thorough knowledge of school administration principles and practices
• Strong understanding of student discipline policies and procedures
• Knowledge of restorative practices and behavioral intervention strategies
• Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Proficiency with standard technology tools (word processing, spreadsheets, databases)
• Ability to develop reports, recommendations, and presentations
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, families, and community partners

WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This position involves primarily sedentary work, requiring occasional exertion of up to 20 pounds of force. Duties include repetitive motion, hand and finger use, and extended periods of sitting and computer use. Effective verbal communication and hearing are required. Visual acuity is necessary for reviewing data and written materials. The work environment is generally free from adverse conditions.
