He or she provides physical, emotional and spiritual support which impacts patient outcomes in a safe environment. The APRN functions in a versatile role that demonstrates professionalism and promotes excellence and autonomy in the practice of Nursing. The APRN has in–depth knowledge of evidence-based practice within a specialty that results in competencies to expand the boundaries of nursing practice by, (a) addressing illness and promoting population health, (b) advancing the practice of other nurses and (c) developing organizational/system modifications to support and improve the practice of nursing. This clinical expert is committed to evidence-based practice, professional standards of care, and code of ethics. Acts as a consultant to the patient, family, healthcare organization and community to assist patients to attain their maximum level of health in a manner sensitive to social and cultural diversity. The role of an APRN may vary based upon qualifications through licensure, accreditation, certification, education and job expectations. APRN practice is facilitated through the standard care agreement between the APRN and collaborating physician(s). Many APRN’s participate in clinical decision making, care plan development and prescribing practices. The age of population served is defined by their specific Advance Practice Provider license.
