Academic Support Lead, English

Compensation Type: Salaried Compensation: $37,440.00 The Academic Support Lead in English, specifically for the Readingand Writing Lab, performs the duties of a Learning SupportSpecialist. The Academic Support Lead tutors in-person and workswith students, faculty, and staff, either one-on-one or in smallgroups, to help them attain a deeper and more substantial commandof the assigned subject matter. This position works with multiplestudents and with other tutors present, in a shared tutoring space.The Academic Support Lead provides general administrative,clerical, and project support for the Reading and Writing Lab, aswell as helping with the training and support of Reading andWriting Lab staff. The incumbent must have a strong command of thesubject matter and be able to communicate it effectively tostudents using a variety of methods and teaching tools. The Reading and Writing Lab is open for service Monday throughThursday from 9:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. There is an expectation that theAcademic Support Lead will work some evening and Saturdayhours.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Tutoring Supplements the understanding and command of developmentalreading and writing for which the students, faculty, and staff areseeking assistance. Tutors for developmental level courses in discipline area ofexpertise only. Helps students to develop and apply appropriate learning andstudy skills. Meets with students and faculty for walk-in and scheduledappointment times. Collaborates with college instructors to generate participationin tutoring and follows up with students that instructors have engaged intutoring to identify additional academic needs and provide support,if necessary. Administrative/ Clerical/Project Support Maintains documentation of all tutoring sessions. Assists with the scheduling of appointments and the monitoringof the Reading and Writing Lab phone, if applicable. Helps with maintenance of tutoring schedule with SiteCoordinator(s). Generates department reports for tutoring and maintainsdocumentation of tutoring interactions. Assists with Reading and Writing Lab programming, outreach,marketing, and updating of the website and Blackboardorganization. Provides course instructor(s) with communication/informationthat can be used to facilitate student learning of coursecontent. Maintains and organizes tutoring documents and materials,ordering copies when needed. Organizes the ordering and storing of office supplies asneeded. Initiates work orders such as housekeeping, generalmaintenance, etc. and follows through until completion. Advanced use and implementation of the College’s tutoringsoftware. Continuous Learning & Mentoring Maintains a thorough knowledge of the course material, as wellas multiple instructional methodologies, to accommodate variousstudent learning styles. Attends tutor training sessions and professional development that benefit the Reading and Writing Lab, its staff andvisitors. Provides training and support to LSS, LSS II, Peer Tutors andSupplemental Instructional Leaders. Assists with planning of staff meetings and professionaldevelopment for Reading and Writing Lab staff. Assists with technical support of tutoring software andreports. Works in close collaboration with academic departmentleadership and faculty leads on Reading and Writing Labcontent. OTHER DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Attends all required departmental meetings and trainings. Holds special study sessions upon the request of instructors,students, Departmental English Lead Faculty, or Department Chair. Other duties as required. *Regular, predictable, and punctual attendance isrequired.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

Bachelor’s degree in English or a related field. One (1) year of experience of developmental reading and writingtutoring or teaching.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS

State Motor Vehicle Operator's License or demonstrable abilityto gain access to work site(s). *An appropriate combination of education, training, courseworkand experience may qualify a candidate.
