CAD Drafter

Job Description

A client of Insight Global is seeking an experienced AutoCAD Drafter with at least 2 years of experience to join their team in the Orlando, Florida area. The ideal candidate is highly proficient in 2D AutoCAD, holds a CAD certification (or related education), and has experience supporting engineering projects within utilities, power, or civil environments.

This individual will play a key role in developing and maintaining construction standards documentation and supporting the creation of a specification (spec) book and engineering manual. They will sit onsite in office 5 days a week and will occasionally meet with clients.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop and update detailed 2D AutoCAD drawings to support engineering and construction standards

• Assist in the creation and maintenance of construction specification books and technical standards documentation

• Work closely under a Principal Engineer to translate requirements into standardized documentation and drawings

• Interpret engineering direction and convert it into clear, organized CAD deliverables

• Support permitting efforts by preparing plan drawings for submission to local jurisdictions

• Read, interpret, and replicate roadway plans, civil site plans, and construction drawings

• Coordinate with internal teams and occasionally meet with clients to clarify requirements and project scope

• Ensure drawings and documentation align with established standards and guidelines

Skills and Requirements

• 1–2+ years of professional CAD drafting experience (not entry-level)

• Strong proficiency in 2D AutoCAD

• CAD Certification required (Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred but not required)

• Ability to read and interpret engineering plans, drawings, and specifications

• Background in utilities, power distribution, or civil/site development projects - Experience supporting spec books, standards manuals, or technical documentation

• Experience creating drawings for permitting and local jurisdiction approvals

• Ability to read or develop roadway plans or civil site plans

• Exposure to drafting standards development or documentation processes
