Controller

Position Summary The primary functions of a Controller are to provide oversight and continuous improvement of the accounting activities for their division. This requires traveling to different locations to conduct reviews of accounting activities and operational processes that affect accounting. Duties & Responsibilities Oversee, review, and improve the overall accounting functions of the division. Ability to perform each function within their division in order to support or train new employees. Partner with yard management by providing analysis and holding with business decisions. Review, implement, and improve internal controls, company policies, and assist in monitoring adherence. Verify and reconcile account balances. Perform analytical review of financial statements to ensure integrity. Perform monthly and quarterly financial and operational reviews of subsidiaries in accordance with GAAP and company guidelines. Assist with mergers and acquisitions, closing journal entries, blending of balance sheets, and onsite pre-merger inventory. Assist, prepare and review year‑end work papers and client assistance packages for external auditors at year‑end. Assist, prepare and review monthly journal entries in the financial statement closing process in accordance with GAAP and company guidelines. Assist, prepare or provide support for tax returns in accordance with federal and state laws. Train new accountants at the subsidiary level in all aspects of financial and accounting reporting in accordance with GAAP and company guidelines. Provide training to subsidiary personnel regarding back‑office functions and accounting software such as Concur, Cadency, OneStream. Act as liaison between the division and director of the department regarding all GMS initiatives. Assist in the preparation of the annual budget. Coordinate and support sales and use‑tax audits, property tax audits. Assist in the preparation of year‑end audit work papers for external auditors. Interact with region and subsidiary managers using written and oral communication skills. Assist with special projects as needed. Communicate regularly with subsidiary accounting staff and all levels of management to develop strong relationships in the field. Develop, create reports based on needs of each region, regional VP, manager, etc. Perform inventory observations and assist with routine inventory counts. Basic Qualifications Bachelor's Degree preferably in Accounting or Finance. Minimum of 5‑7 years of related work experience; travel to multiple locations. CPA is preferred. Strong Microsoft Office skills. Demonstrated knowledge of all general accounting, financial statements, SOX controls and overall accounting procedures. Physical Requirements Must be able to remain in a stationary position in an office environment 80% of the time, with frequent movement around the office to access files, office machinery, etc. Must be able to operate basic office machinery. Must be able to communicate with team and management and exchange accurate information in these situations. Must be able to move any files weighing up to 10 pounds for audits, etc. Required Cognitive Skills Must be able to problem‑solve and prioritize tasks. Must be able to manage stress depending on deadlines and ongoing projects. Must be able to multitask. Must be able to receive and analyze information. Must be able to quickly communicate solutions if problems occur. Must be able to demonstrate a high degree of sound judgment and initiative. Compensation and Benefits The base salary for this position typically falls within the range of $124,800.00 to $168,300.00 annually. Starting wages may vary based on a number of factors, including but not limited to the position being offered, location, education, training, and/or experience. SRS Distribution offers additional competitive and non‑financial benefits. Depending on the role, associates may also be eligible for performance‑based bonus programs, commissions, profit‑sharing programs, car allowance or automobile and fuel program, and reimbursement for travel expenses in accordance with company travel policy.
