The Cardiac Catheterization Technologist plays a vital role in assisting cardiologists during invasive cardiac procedures. This professional ensures accurate monitoring, equipment operation, and patient safety throughout the interventions. Responsibilities:
- Monitor patient's intracardiac pressures and communicate significant changes to the physician.
- Record pressures in all chambers as directed during procedures.
- Operate and calibrate imaging and diagnostic equipment such as A-Vox, Cardiac Output, and ACT monitors.
- Prepare and supply necessary tools and supplies including catheters, wires, balloons, and stents.
- Maintain detailed procedure records using the Cardiac Cath Lab computer system.
- Assist in setup, calibration, and operation of intra-aortic balloon pumps and other advanced devices.
- Support emergency procedures by operating resuscitative equipment like defibrillators and external pacemakers.
- Replenish supplies and perform routine preventive maintenance on lab equipment.
- Learn and incorporate new catheterization technologies and techniques.
- Operate power injectors for contrast dye injections during imaging.
- Prepare patient rooms and assist nursing staff with patient transport and positioning.
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Proven experience with cardiac catheterization procedures preferred.
- Ability to operate complex medical and diagnostic equipment.
- Strong understanding of cardiovascular anatomy and physiology.
- Excellent attention to detail and documentation skills.
- Certification or licensure is not mandatory but advantageous.
