HVAC Controls System Engineer II

HVAC Control Systems Engineer II Preferred Candidate Location: NE Suburbs Illinois or SE Wisconsin (This is NOT Remote) Responsibilities Design, configure, and operate complete building control systems including fire, security, and low voltage control sub‑systems to meet project requirements. Be accountable to field teams for the quality, timeliness, and efficiency of designs. Develop complex software programs, commission systems, and troubleshoot to ensure proper operation. Provide detailed information and submittals to communicate design and operation to customers, consultants, Johnson Controls field installation teams, and subcontractors. Travel as required for the role. How the work will be carried out Design and configure technically complex building control systems as defined by contract documents. Create flow diagrams, sequence of operations, bill of materials, network layouts, and electrical schematics. Develop, test, and deploy software programs necessary for system operation. Coordinate and produce necessary drawings and equipment schedules for submittals and installation. Select, order, and track the delivery of materials for assigned projects. Coordinate factory‑mounting, loading, and commissioning of system and network‑level controllers. Validate complete system functionality, solve problems with subcontractors and other trades, and ensure proper operation. Provide field change information for as‑built drawings and software updates. Keep management and Johnson Controls contractors or customers informed of job progress and issues. Assist in performing site‑specific training for owner/operator on the total building control system. Participate in release meetings with the project field team. Conduct value engineering to provide cost‑effective results while maintaining customer satisfaction. May provide work directions to Systems Design Assistants. Adhere to safety standards with a high degree of employee and subcontractor safety. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in engineering and minimum 3 years of experience. Demonstrated knowledge of the construction or HVAC industry. Knowledge of control theory, automatic temperature controls, building automation systems, and other building sub‑systems. Experience with JCI software programming. Experience integrating low voltage building sub‑systems using various industry protocols (e.g., LON, BACnet). Ability to relate technical knowledge to a non‑technical audience. Advanced computer skills, especially with drafting tools. Ability to travel regularly. HIRING SALARY RANGE: 80,600.00 - 114k. (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.)
