Water Systems Monitor

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES Oversees and monitors plumbing installations to ensure compliance with the City’s cross connection ordinances and for quality of workmanship. SUPERVISION RECEIVED Work is under the general supervision of the Water Division Superintendent or their designee. TYPICAL EXAMPLES OF WORK Observe and monitor plumbing installations during construction, alterations, and upon completion; test completed work of backflow devices to ensure use of proper materials and compliance with City ordinances and for quality of workmanship. Assist and advise plumbers, contractors and others in making applications for permits. Investigate violations of plumbing and water and sewer ordinances while in the field, take necessary action to enforce City ordinances, make court appearances. Check complaints in regard to defective plumbing installations. Check complaints regarding water quality. Provide assistance and information to contractors and the general public regarding proper plumbing installations and water quality monitoring. Prepare periodic records and reports of inspections, complaints and investigations. Work in cooperation with Building, Electrical, Heating and Fire Inspectors. Compile reports required by the Safe Drinking Water Act. Perform water quality monitoring and cross connection control inspections. DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS Possess a State of Michigan - Department of Public Health S classification. Reasonable knowledge of materials, tools, methods and techniques used in plumbing work in ensure compliance with City cross connection ordinances and for quality of workmanship. Reasonable knowledge of possible health hazards arising from faulty plumbing connections and systems. Ability to perform inspections of plumbing installations for the use of proper materials and procedures. Reasonable knowledge of City ordinances relating to plumbing installations and Water and Sewer System ordinances. Ability to understand and work with specifications, blue‑prints and drawings. Ability to prepare comprehensive reports in connection with inspections and violations of City ordinances. Knowledge of the State of Michigan Safe Drinking Water Act and water quality standards. Knowledge of State of Michigan Cross Connection Control Rules. Working knowledge of computerized database entry, database management, G.I.S., word processing and database merge routines. Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions. Ability to establish and maintain satisfactory working relationships with the public and other employees. Working towards a State of Michigan approved cross connection control certification. Possess a plumbing inspectors registration issued by the State of Michigan in compliance with Skilled Trades Registration Act 407 of 2016. REQUIREMENTS Graduation from an accredited high school or G.E.D. equivalent. ORIGINAL diploma or official transcripts required at time of application. Five (5) years of experience in the installation of plumbing systems. Possession of a master plumber’s license, as issued by the State of Michigan; or possession of a journeyman’s license as issued by the State of Michigan and ten (10) years of experience in plumbing work. Possess a State of Michigan approved cross connection control certification. Possess a valid license to operate a motor vehicle in the State of Michigan. Driving record must meet city’s standards for insurability. PAY RATE $83,039/year (Flat rate) BENEFITS Excellent benefit package includes health, dental and life insurance, paid vacation and sick time.
