About The Position The Supervising Financial Evaluator is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing the daily operations and performance of a financial evaluation unit within the court. This position ensures that financial assessments, collections, and related processes are conducted accurately, efficiently, and in compliance with applicable laws, policies, and procedures. This position provides direction, training, and performance management to staff while fostering a high standard of customer service and accountability. In addition, the role involves evaluating and improving workflows, implementing policy and procedural enhancements, and addressing complex or sensitive cases as needed. This position requires sound judgment, effective leadership, discretion, ensuring confidentiality and safeguarding sensitive information, and the capability to collaborate effectively with judicial officers, court personnel, external agencies, and the public. Key Responsibilities Lead, supervise, and evaluate the performance of financial evaluation staff, including coaching, goal setting, and performance management Plan, organize, and oversee unit operations to ensure compliance with court policies, procedures, and legal requirements Develop and implement process improvements, policies, and workflow strategies to enhance efficiency and service delivery, including effective resource allocation Provide technical guidance, training, and support to staff while resolving complex or escalated cases and inquiries Monitor financial evaluation and collection activities, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely reporting The responsibilities above illustrate the general scope of work for this classification. Telework Eligibility This position may be eligible for telework following an initial training period and contingent upon the needs of the Court. Minimum Requirements To qualify, you must meet one of the following options at the final filing date of this bulletin: OPTION I: Two (2) years of experience at the level of a Superior Court of California, County of Los Angeles, Financial Evaluator. OPTION II: Graduation from high school or G.E.D. equivalent –AND– two (2) years of experience performing financial evaluations and assessments of ability to pay. Experience at the level of a Financial Evaluator is defined as work collecting information through interviews and other investigative means and the analysis of this information to determine a defendant’s or responsible parties’ ability to pay Court‑assessed costs. This includes the application of knowledge of Court policies and procedures related to assessing an individual’s ability to pay, establishing payment plans, and ensuring that the funds are collected in a timely manner. Note: Credit for experience is based on a 40‑hour workweek. Part‑time experience is credited on a pro‑rate basis (e.g. working 20 hours per week for two months equals one month of experience). Overtime does not count toward additional credit.
