A direct support professional is a person who assists an individual with a disability to lead a self-directed life and contribute to the community, assists with activities of daily living if needed, and encourages attitudes and behaviors that enhance community inclusion./ppA DSP may provide supports to a person with a disability at home, work, school, church, and other community places. A DSP also acts as an advocate for the disabled individual, in communicating their needs, self-expression and goals./ppDuties and Responsibilities:/pulliAssist with daily living skills (e.g., lifting, transferring, toileting, personal hygiene, laundry, meal preparation)./liliPromote appropriate community integration and social interaction (e.g. visiting family, friends, church/temple, etc)./liliImplement outcomes developed through a Support Plan./liliComplete paperwork as assigned including documentation (e.g., incident reports, outcomes, log entries)./liliAdminister and record medications pursuant to State and Agency requirements, where applicable. With valid APD training Medication Administration Fl Code 65 G-7./liliAccompany residents on medical appointments when needed./liliMaintain living environment in accordance with D.D.A. regulations and health department standards./liliProvide Transportation to our consumer as needed./liliMake oneself available in emergency situations as the need arises./liliWork cooperatively with professional and paraprofessional staff in the interest of the consumer./liliCommunicate with and update the Supported Living Coah on a regular basis, if applicable./liliAssist the consumer with recreational, cultural and vacation plans of his/her choice./liliProvide independent and functional living instructions to the consumers./liliComplete all state required trainings./liliAssist with shopping (e.g., food, clothes)./li/ulpEducation and Experience :/pulliHigh School Diploma or G.E.D.
