Job Details Worker Type: Regular Schedule: Full‑time, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m., varying nights with every 3rd weekend, holiday requirement, no on‑call requirement Location: Saint Louis University Hospital, St. Louis, MO Eligibility Graduate of an accredited nursing program Eligible to practice as determined by State Board of Nursing Less than one year of RN experience Job Summary Pre‑licensure graduate of an accredited nursing program who actively participates in the SSM Health Saint Louis University Hospital New Graduate Nurse Residency Program. Under the direction of an RN Preceptor, provide care to patients within scope of role and professional standards. Responsible for delivery of age‑appropriate care for patients with a wide variety of medical conditions. Job Responsibilities and Requirements Under the direction of the RN Preceptor: Perform comprehensive nursing assessment/reassessment. Perform age‑appropriate admission or transfer assessment. Accurately and completely document findings. Perform assessment of post‑op/post‑invasive procedure patients. Assess and document education and discharge needs of patient and family on admission and throughout hospitalization. Provide patient reassessment with documentation of pertinent observations per plan of care and patient status changes. Establish, coordinate, and evaluate a plan of care based on assessment data, lab results, physician orders, protocols and standards. Identify short and long‑term goals based on patient care needs. Formulate nursing interventions to achieve desired patient outcomes. Incorporate disease‑specific evidence‑based practice into nursing plan and documentation. Provide and document nursing interventions based on assessed needs, plan of care, and status changes. Collaborate with appropriate health team members for daily plan of care coordination. Provide, coordinate, and communicate patient care, including accurate hand‑off communication reports. Administer and document medications accurately per policies and procedures. Monitor, maintain, and document accurate IV fluids and parenteral nutrition per policies and procedures. Complete referrals as indicated by assessment data. Request consultation for special needs, equipment, or information. Provide patient/family education and discharge planning per documentation guidelines and protocol. Clarify all physician orders as warranted. Acknowledge and implement physician orders in an accurate and timely manner. Assist physician with procedures/treatments or delegate to Care Partner as appropriate. Document "Readback" for all telephone/verbal orders. Take telephone/verbal orders only in emergency situations. Recognize changes in patient’s condition and take appropriate nursing actions. Involve family/guardian when providing care and in decision‑making when appropriate. Recognize risks for patient and take appropriate action. Incorporate infection control practices in daily care. Document and/or communicate nursing care and changes in patient condition. Perform and document ongoing evaluation of effectiveness of care. Evaluate and document effectiveness of patient/family education. Evaluate plan of care and modify as indicated. Recognize significant changes in patient’s clinical parameters and report immediately. Identify problems, gather data, suggest solutions, communicate using appropriate authority, and work toward problem resolution. Report variation from care/treatment per reporting policy. Provide specialized care to high‑risk patients, including restraint care, pain management, and abuse assessment responsibilities. Adhere to quality and performance standards, policies, procedures, protocols in clinical and technical care. Participate in learning experiences to increase professional competence. Demonstrate appropriate technical and cognitive skills and maintain currency in hospital/unit policies and procedures. Attend staff meetings, review minutes when absent. Participate in committees, shared governance, work teams in leadership or membership roles. Review hospital/nursing publications, keep up to date with policies and procedures. Demonstrate ability to change and adapt to evolving work demands. Assist and support peers, coworkers, and team members. Adapt positively to changes in workload and job demands. Orient and precept new employees when required. Provide resources to co‑workers and patients. Assume and delegate care and activities appropriately. Redirect clinical staff when plan of care is altered. Communicate the patient plan of care accurately and professionally. Supervise and teach students/new staff nurses. Practice safety/infection control, use standard precautions, safe patient handling, and maintain clutter‑free environment. Maintain dress code, minimize background noise, and adhere to hand hygiene compliance. Complete all mandatory annual requirements (licensure, certifications, TB screening, influenza vaccination, ethics training, safety training, information security, abuse & neglect, blood‑borne pathogens). Job Specifications Minimum Education: RN licensure in Missouri or new graduate of accredited nursing school and must obtain licensure within 6 months of graduation. Working Conditions: May be exposed to bloodborne diseases, accidents, injuries, illness, emergency and crisis situations, irregular hours. Physical Requirements: Prolonged standing/walking, occasional lifting/pushing/transferring patients, reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching. Required Professional License And/Or Certifications State of Work Location: Illinois – BLS HCP; RN within 3 months of NCLEX; Official NCLEX Pass Letter. State of Work Location: Missouri & Oklahoma – BLS HCP; NCLEX within 3 months of graduation. State of Work Location: Wisconsin – BLS HCP; NCLEX within 3 months of graduation.
