Job Description

The incumbent will function as a member of the nursing care team and assist licensed nursing staff in the care of patients. Assigned duties include utilizing glucose monitoring machines to receive glucose readings for veterans, providing direct care for complex veterans, making observations of subtle changes in resident's condition, documenting care given, responding appropriately to subtle patient changes, administering complete tracheostomy care, monitoring and documenting patient intake and output, performing nursing procedures within scope of practice, working on small group activities with veterans, recognizing residents' autonomy and promoting independence, actively participating in Treatment Planning Meetings, utilizing equipment to promote veteran self-care, verbally providing patient information to the treatment team, participating in maintaining a clean, safe environment for the patient, removing defective equipment, reporting hazards, observing safety regulations, contributing to infection control, serving as the unit safe patient handling liaison, serving as preceptor and mentor to other NAs, orienting members of the health care team to the units, functioning as a member of the unit base counsel, managing distributed patient behavior, appropriately intervening and requesting assistance from other health care members, and appropriately initiating basic life support.

Work Schedule

7:30 pm to 8 am compressed schedule with one 8-hour tour and every other weekend.

When setting pay, a higher step rate of the appropriate grade may be determined after consideration of higher or unique qualifications or special needs of the VA. 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year). After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child. After 60 days of employment, full time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66. Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA. Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement).
