Stephen G. Brilliant, M.S, CPA, is a long-established CPA firm in Hillsborough, NJ.  We have an immediate opening for a full-time staff accountant to join our growing and experienced team. The ideal candidate for this position will have a strong desire to work in a bustling tax office that provides professional growth. We are particularly interested in individuals who possess interest and proficiency in small business accounting and individual tax preparation and who work well both individually and as a team member.

Responsibilities:

• Prepare individual, business, fiduciary, trust, estate, and foreign tax returns for privately held businesses, real estate investors, professional service firms, high-net-worth individuals, and complex corporate clients.

·       Prepare sales tax and other business tax filings

·       Assist with tax planning strategies designed to reduce federal and state tax liabilities, minimize penalties, and support long-term client tax efficiency.

·       Respond to IRS and state tax notices, working to resolve client tax issues efficiently.

·       Supporting the CPA in federal and state tax audit

·       Collaborating on ad hoc special projects, consulting engagements, forensic accounting assignments, and one-time advisory projects based on client and firm needs.

·       Becoming knowledgeable and proficient in current tax form instructions, tax tables, and research methods for atypical returns

 

Qualifications :

·       The minimum education requirement for this position is a BA degree in Accounting/Taxation from a U.S. college or university. CPA candidates are welcome to apply, and CPA licensure is encouraged but not required

·       2-8 years of public accounting and/or taxation experience in the United States

·       Excellent computer skills including Word, Excel, and Quickbooks.

·       Knowledge of Ultra Tax and/or Thomson Reuters software is a plus

·       Outstanding organizational ability with focused attention to detail

·       Strong desire to learn and grow

·       Self-motivated, flexible, and disciplined in setting and achieving work goals

·       Possess excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to proofread and edit documents for grammar and understanding without the use of ChatGPT.

·       Ability to make independent decisions using strong judgment

·       Be cognizant of  time and billing requirements for small businesses and individuals

·       Excellent interpersonal skills, maintaining a professional and positive attitude under pressure and  with a variety of people

 

Preferred Experience:

·        Data entry, bank reconciliations, and accounting analysis

·        Familiarity with preparation of business returns and projections

·        Personal, small business, and trust tax experience, including projections, planning, and analysis
