Marketing Specialist

Description Starting salary is dependent on applicant qualifications and experience. The Marketing Specialist for the Community Relations & Destination Services Department plays a key role in supporting the City’s marketing and promotional efforts, with a strong focus on branding, graphic design, and video production. Reporting to the Department Director, this position leads the creative development and execution of visual content for the Discover Buda, TX brand, City-sponsored events, and tourism initiatives, including sports tourism. Responsibilities include developing and implementing marketing and advertising campaigns, which include designing print and digital materials and producing videos that ensure brand consistency and effectively engage the community. The ideal candidate combines creative talent with technical skills and a strategic mindset to enhance the City’s visibility and public engagement. Develops and maintains brand concepts and visual standards for City programs, projects, events, and tourism initiatives to ensure consistent and recognizable public-facing communications. Develops the annual advertising plan, administers related contracts, and oversees the production and placement of advertising materials to use resources effectively and expand awareness of the City and Discover Buda, TX brands. Creates accessible digital content and campaign assets, including forms, surveys, interactive documents, webpages, and mobile content, to provide clear and engaging information to residents, visitors, and community partners. Researches market conditions, audience interests, and industry trends and collaborates with the Director to develop marketing strategies that increase awareness of City services, tourism opportunities, and the Buda brand. Identifies storytelling opportunities and develops written, photographic, audio, and video content about City activities, events, businesses, residents, and attractions to strengthen community engagement and promote Buda as a destination. Plans, schedules, records, and edits recurring video features using appropriate camera, audio, lighting, and editing equipment to deliver accurate, professional, and engaging multimedia content. Conceptualizes, designs, and produces print and digital marketing materials, including brochures, billboards, magazines, flyers, merchandise, guides, and promotional items, to support City and tourism campaigns while maintaining brand consistency. Writes copy, designs images and layouts, coordinates printing, and supports distribution of City publications, including news magazines and dining and entertainment guides, to provide timely information and promote local attractions and businesses. Creates, schedules, and monitors content for social media platforms; engages appropriately with followers, regional partners, and potential influencers; and maintains consistent branding to expand digital reach and encourage public participation. Maintains City and related websites, coordinates updates with department communicators, and reviews content for accuracy, accessibility, timeliness, and brand consistency so the public can reliably access current information. Implements monthly marketing and social media plans and analyzes website, advertising, and social media performance data to recommend adjustments that improve outreach and campaign effectiveness. Identifies and coordinates opportunities to promote Discover Buda, Tx and visitor services at community, tourism, and industry events, including deployment of the mobile visitor center. Supports tourism and venue sales through marketing, lead generation, and customer relationship management for Buda tourism assets, including Buda Championship Park and the City’s amphitheater. Performs other related duties consistent with the purpose and classification of the position to support department operations and respond to changing organizational needs. Typical Qualifications Education and Experience Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, public relations, graphic design, or a closely related field. Four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in marketing, communications, public relations, graphic design, multimedia production, tourism promotion, or a closely related field. Demonstrated experience using Adobe Creative Cloud applications, including InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Lightroom, and Premiere Pro, or comparable professional design and video-editing software. Demonstrated experience with video production, including filming, audio recording, lighting, and editing. At least two (2) years of experience managing organizational social media accounts and website content. Operating camera, audio, and lighting equipment and producing professional-quality photographic and video content. Operating drone equipment. Writing, editing, and presenting clear, accurate, audience-appropriate content using correct grammar, spelling, punctuation, and document format. Managing social media platforms, website content, scheduling tools, and analytics programs to publish content and evaluate performance. Planning and coordinating multiple campaigns, publications, contracts, events, vendors, schedules, and deadlines. Using standard office technology and software to prepare documents, maintain records, analyze data, and communicate with internal and external partners. Providing responsive customer and visitor service and communicating tactfully with residents, visitors, businesses, volunteers, vendors, and community partners. Negotiating and coordinating professional service agreements as assigned. Ability to Translate City and department goals into cohesive brand concepts, marketing strategies, and creative deliverables for varied audiences and communication channels. Maintain accuracy, accessibility, and brand consistency across print, digital, web, social media, and multimedia content. Interpret marketing and engagement data, identify trends, and recommend practical improvements to campaigns and digital outreach. Plan, organize, prioritize, and complete multiple assignments independently within established deadlines while adapting to changing needs. Collaborate effectively with employees, volunteers, vendors, businesses, tourism partners, and members of the public to complete projects and deliver programs. Respond calmly, professionally, and respectfully to questions, concerns, and difficult interactions while maintaining productive working relationships.
