Horton, Inc. is currently looking for a Litigation Attorney. The right candidate will support the company’s business objectives, defend and pursue its legal interests. Pursue alternative resolution methods using arbitration or mediation. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.Manage litigation matters, including oversight and collaboration with outside counselPerform initial Case Investigation and AssessmentAssist in responding to discovery requests, subpoenas, government inquiries, and regulatory investigations Advise internal stakeholders and senior management on legal risks associated with business activities and proposed courses of actionWork collaboratively with other members of the legal team, as well as cross-functional teams across the organization, to achieve strategic objectives, manage legal risks effectively, and effect resolution among all partiesLocate and take preliminary statements from witnesses, reviewing documents, client interviews and investigation of relevant events leading up to the disputeActively drive cases to resolution and participate in mediations and settlement conferences Maintain and update matter management systems, including opening matters, tracking status, managing budgets, and reporting on outcomesContinuing Legal Education (CLE) credits required to maintain licensureMaintain current knowledge of legal developments, trends, and best practices relevant to the organization’s businessConducts all business in a professional and ethical manner to serve customers and increase the goodwill and profit of the companyAbility to travel overnightSupervisory ResponsibilitiesMay have supervisory responsibilitiesQualificationsEducation and/or ExperienceJuris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school and current license to practice law is requiredMinimum of 5 years of litigation experienceAbility to negotiate and litigate cases effectivelyStrong knowledge of relevant laws and regulationsExcellent written and verbal communication skills for effective representation and the ability to provide clear and concise business-focused legal adviceProficiency in legal drafting for the preparation of contracts, pleadings, and briefsAttention to detail and strong analytical skills for case analysisAbility to work independently as well as collaboratively with a team of attorneysAbility to multitask, work independently and carry out important projects with limited oversightFlexibility to work in a fast-paced, high-growth environment and a desire for learning new areas of law and regulation in a variety of jurisdictionsAbility to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written oral form or via DRH applicationsProficiency with MS Office and emailAbility to sit for majority of 8-hour workday; use hands and fingers to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear.
