About the Role
The Maintenance Specialist plays a critical role in ensuring our nursing facility remains safe, functional, and welcoming for Members, Member families, staff, and visitors. This position is responsible for the day-to-day maintenance, repair, and upkeep of facility systems and equipment, including basic mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and carpentry work.
Working closely with clinical, administrative, and support staff, the Maintenance Specialist responds to maintenance requests, addresses urgent repair needs, and performs preventative maintenance to help minimize downtime and extend the life of building assets. Through a proactive approach to facility operations, this role helps maintain an environment that supports exceptional resident care and efficient daily operations.
Key Responsibilities- Respond promptly to maintenance requests and repair needs while adhering to all safety, regulatory, and compliance standards.
- Perform routine inspections, troubleshooting, maintenance, and repairs of building systems, equipment, and facility infrastructure.
- Assist with preventative maintenance programs to reduce equipment downtime and ensure optimal facility performance.
- Support general facility upkeep, including exterior maintenance, groundskeeping, and routine lawn care as needed.
- Collaborate with department leaders and staff to prioritize work orders and minimize disruptions to resident care and facility operations.
- Maintain accurate records of completed work, inspections, and preventative maintenance activities using maintenance management systems.
- Identify potential maintenance concerns and recommend corrective actions before issues escalate.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Demonstrated ability to diagnose and repair routine facility maintenance issues.
- Basic knowledge of workplace safety practices and compliance standards, preferably within a healthcare or regulated environment.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, blueprints, schematics, and operating instructions.
- Two (2) or more years of maintenance experience, preferably in a nursing home, healthcare facility, or similar setting.
- Familiarity with healthcare facility equipment and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Experience using computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
- Technical training, certification, or coursework in one or more building trades.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work effectively across departments.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
- Attention to detail and commitment to maintaining a safe environment.
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and respond effectively to urgent maintenance needs.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and customer service skills.
- Proficiency with maintenance software and electronic work order systems.
- Ability to work independently while contributing as part of a team.
- Must be available to work every other weekend, occasional evenings, and on-call shifts as needed.
- Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a criminal background check in accordance with New York State Department of Health requirements.
