Purpose: Responsible for coordinating well-being of residents and supervising the work performance of employees.

Essential Functions- Job Duties: The following duties are considered essential to the job. Qualified individuals must have the ability, with or without reasonable accommodation, to perform the following duties:

• Supervises nursing department and assigns work to staff as as appropriate.
• Provides instruction and direction in methods and techniques of nursing and resident care.
• Ensures that care, comfort and well-being of the resident are attained in with established policies and procedures.
• Provide functional supervision to personal care staff; including assigning work and confirming that work is accurately completed.
• Assist with the assessments & RASP (Resident Assessment Support Plan) process. Also assists with admissions and discharges. 
• Receive verbal orders from physicians including lab work, x-rays, Holter monitor requests, etc. Provide follow up with appropriate documentation. Verify medication orders with physician upon resident admission or discharge from hospital. Assist with resident health assessments. Supervise and assist residents with medications, including insulin injections and blood sugar checks.
• Administers physician ordered pharmacological agents, therapeutic treatment, and hypodermic injections. Observes, interprets, records and reports resident’s response. Completes all necessary documentation
• Ensures that resident support plans, charts and treatment schedules are followed by staff. Processes admission and discharges of residents.
• Assists physicians/CRNPs with rounds as needed. Provides information/updates to nursing staff, supervisors, administration, physicians, and other disciplines as appropriate to coordinate continuity of care.
• Orders and receives medications, treatment supplies, resident care supplies, and nursing station supplies for an assigned area as needed.
• Assist in orientation of new nursing staff.
• Maintains a high degree of safety awareness and infection control practices. 
• Assist as necessary with staffing issues, including finding coverage for call-offs. Ensures appropriate staffing levels are maintained, assisting in finding coverage and covering shifts, as needed.
• Assess residents in the hospital to determine appropriateness for return.

• Performs other duties as directed by the Administrator.

Secondary Functions- Job Duties: The following are secondary to the essential functions listed above:

1. Attend and participates in staff meetings, projects, special events, committees, and mandatory training as appropriate. Completes competency evaluations for training as required by the state or as assigned by their immediate supervisor, HR Director, or Executive Director.

1. Responsible to issue employee discipline (oral and written), as appropriate and in consultation with the Executive Director, as necessary. Monitors employee break times, mealtimes and completes employee incident reports immediately.

1. Promotes and encourages individualized resident independence while maintaining resident dignity, individuality, confidentiality and following infection control policies.

1. Works as a member of a team to provide essential nursing services and uses effective communication skills.

1. Maintains safety and health rules by participating in training along with following protocols related to OSHA & CDC regulations and Cardinal Senior Management Standards as required

1. Follow all applicable state regulations

1. Promotes and encourages individualized resident independence while maintaining resident dignity, individuality, confidentiality and following infection control policies.

1. Works as a member of a team to provide essential nursing services and uses effective communication skills.

1. Assist residents within initial set up and periodic rearrangement of items and clothing.

1. Assist with the delivery of personal mail as appropriate.

1. Assist with the preparation of units as turnover occurs.

1. Assist with the monitoring of resident schedules including physician appointments, transportation, etc.

1. Participates in on-call rotation as scheduled.

1. Follow all applicable state regulations.

Job Requirements

Education & Knowledge Requirements- Specific education, certification, and licensure:

• Current Licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse
• Current CPR and First Aid Certification
• Individuals in this position must have obtained age eighteen (18) prior to first day of employment or transfer into position

Essential Job-Related Experience/Abilities:

• Demonstrated knowledge of the principles and practices of supervision and of resident care management.
• Ability to maintain a therapeutic attitude toward an effective relationship with residents. 
• Ability to instruct staff, assign work, evaluate performance, and prepare reports. 
• Ability to lift, bend, stoop, push, pull or transport residents, supplies or furniture up to 75 pounds; may ask for assistance if needed. 

Exposure to Hazardous Conditions:

• Exposure to blood and body fluids is frequent
• Exposure to contaminated needle sticks is occasional

Preferred Job-Related Experience/Abilities/Education:

• One(1) year experience supervising nursing staff
• Basic computer skills for assessment data entry and medication administration
