Position Details Specialty: OR - Operating Room Discipline: RN Duration: 13 weeks Hours: 40 hours per week Shift: 8 hours, days Employment Type: Travel Job ID: 1411694 Responsibilities Assist physicians and medical staff in caring for surgical patients. Provide pre‑ and post‑surgery care and education to the patient. Communicate between patients’ family members and the operating team. Ensure that the correct procedure(s) is being performed on the correct patient. Initiate patient education plan as prescribed by physician; teach patients and families how to manage medication and home care needs. Provide basic bedside care. Prepare, administer, and record prescribed medication, reporting any adverse reactions to treatment. Respond to comfort and safety needs of patient (additional duties for Circulating OR Nurses). Accurate care and handling of specimens (additional duties for Circulating OR Nurses). Monitor equipment used during surgery (additional duties for Circulating OR Nurses). Inventory of surgical items pre‑ and post‑procedure (additional duties for Circulating OR Nurses and Scrub OR Nurses). Selection and handling of surgical instruments and supplies during procedures (additional duties for Scrub OR Nurses). Assist physicians by delivering direct surgical care (additional duties for RN First Assistant). Help control bleeding (additional duties for RN First Assistant). Suture patients following surgery (additional duties for RN First Assistant). Stand and walk for long periods of time, bend, lean, and stoop without difficulty. Lift 20 pounds easily; may lift up to 50 pounds when necessary. Face hazards from exposure to certain chemicals or infectious diseases in the operating room environment. Qualifications 1–2 years recent acute care experience as a circulating nurse, scrub nurse, and/or RN first assistant. BLS certification, 2 years required. Additional certifications may be required before beginning an assignment.
