Location: Torrance, CA and surrounding area. Pay rate: $22.00 to $25.00 per hour depending on experience. Schedule: Shift from 6AM to 6PM, Monday through Friday. Shift length: 8 hours. Float position covering LA and OC counties. Requires a clean driving record, reliable transportation, and mileage expenses paid. Requires pediatric and geriatric experience. Overview The main function of a phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations. Responsibilities Experience drawing blood, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data, decontamination, updating patient information, etc. Collects and stores specimens according to established procedures. Properly explains in a clear but courteous manner the process of the venipuncture (blood drawing) and other specimen collection (e.g., urine or fecal) as required. Demonstrates technique using straight needles and/or butterfly needles. Fully understands physicians' orders. Matches laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes. Labels, centrifuges, splits, and freezes specimens as required by test order. Checks all test requisitions or computer label against script to ensure 100% correctness. Packages specimens for transport. Stores specimen samples according to required temperature, places samples in appropriate collection containers, accurately labels, follows different procedures as outlined by protocol. Understands and complies with OSHA and DEP regulations. Attend annual department trainings. Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries. Qualifications Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment. Minimum six months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast‑paced lab or hospital setting.
