Clinical Nurse (RN) - AAU Float Pool - 0.9 FTE 12-hr, Night Shift

Role Summary The Clinical Nurse (CN) is an RN who provides hands‑on care to patients, practicing in an evidence‑based manner within the scope of the California Nursing Practice Act, regulatory requirements, standards of care, and hospital policies. The CN performs all steps of the nursing process, including assessing patients; interpreting and monitoring data; planning, implementing, and evaluating care; coordinating care with other providers; and teaching patients and families the knowledge and skills needed to manage their care and prevent complications. The CN partners with the patient’s family wherever possible to deliver family‑centered care and monitors the quality of nursing care provided. Responsibilities Establish and maintain therapeutic relationships, creating a climate conducive to healing by being present to the patient and family, identifying and managing discomforts, providing emotional support and information, and guiding the patient and family through illness, recovery, passage to death, or in accordance with the patient’s goals and culture. Mobilize the patient’s strengths and abilities towards participation in recovery and control over the plan of care. Obtain accurate assessment data, interpret it, determine nursing diagnoses, and monitor and evaluate data frequently based on patient stability. Collaborate with patient, family, and health‑care team members to develop an individualized plan of care, implement nursing and medical interventions safely, and evaluate effectiveness while monitoring for adverse responses and side effects. Assess patient and family learning needs, teach needed information for self‑care and illness prevention, and adjust information and expectations based on responses, developmental levels, physiological and psychological condition, and cultural variations. Teach other staff members through formal or informal roles such as preceptor or super‑user. Respond to rapidly changing situations, activate emergency protocols, and ensure quality health‑care practices. Integrate multiple requests and work expectations by setting priorities, delegating tasks, and seeking assistance as needed. Participate in unit programs, meetings, and shared governance groups to contribute to team building, positive morale, and skill development. Utilize available technology for communication, documentation, and locating information regarding unusual clinical situations. Qualifications Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited college or university (preferred). Minimum 1year RN experience in a cardiac telemetry setting (required). Minimum 2years RN experience in an acute‑care setting in AAU, MEDSURG, Float Pool, or Telemetry (strongly preferred). Experience using Epic Systems Electronic Health Record (required). Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association (required). Current ACLS certification from the American Heart Association (required; may be required by cost center). Valid CA‑RN license. Effective communication in English. Commitment to lifelong learning and professional development, including maintaining licensure and current knowledge relevant to the assigned patient population. Physical Demands Frequent lifting of patients and equipment, bending, stooping, and walking. Working with exposure to blood, bodily fluids, or tissues; work may involve protective clothing or gear. Risk of contagious disease, radiation, or infection, and handling emotionally disturbed patients. Compensation Base pay scale generally starting at $96.35–$111.14 per hour. Final salary will be set based on internal equity, experience, education, specialty, and training.
