Clinical Nurse (RN) - Medicine (AAU B2) - 0.9 FTE, 12-hr, Night Shift

Overview The Clinical Nurse (CN) is an RN who provides hands‑on care to patients, practicing in an evidence‑based manner, within the Scope of Practice of the California Nursing Practice Act, regulatory requirements, standards of care, and hospital policies. The CN performs all steps of the nursing process, including assessing patients; interpreting data; planning, implementing, and evaluating care; coordinating care with other providers; and teaching the patient and family the knowledge and skills needed to manage their care and prevent complications. The CN partners with the patient's family wherever possible, delivering family‑centered care and monitoring the quality of nursing care provided. What you will do The Helping Role Establishes Therapeutic Relationships: Creates and maintains a climate conducive to healing through presence, identifying and managing discomforts, providing emotional support and information, and guiding the patient and family through phases of illness and recovery in accordance with the patient’s goals and culture. Diagnostic and Monitoring Functions: Obtains accurate assessment data, interprets it as normal or abnormal, determines nursing diagnosis, and monitors and evaluates data frequently as needed based on stability. Plans and Implements Therapeutic Interventions: Collaborates with the patient, family and health‑care team to develop an individualized plan of care, implements nursing and medical interventions safely, and evaluates effectiveness while monitoring for adverse responses and side effects. Teaching and Coaching, Patient and Staff Teaching: Assesses learning needs and readiness, teaches self‑care and illness prevention, and adjusts information based on responses, developmental level, and cultural variations. Teaches other staff members both incidentally and through formal roles such as preceptor or super‑user. Effective Management of Rapidly Changing Situations: Rapidly grasps problem situations, responds quickly and appropriately, and activates emergency protocols when necessary. Monitors and Ensures Quality Healthcare Practices: Monitors own practices and assists in monitoring others for patient and employee safety, compliance to standards and policies, and seeks opportunities for continual improvement. Organization and Work Role Functions: Integrates multiple requests and work expectations, sets priorities, delegates tasks appropriately, and seeks assistance as needed. Priorities: Contributes to team building through participation in unit programs and meetings, promotes positive morale, and applies constructive conflict resolution skills. Management and Delegation: Utilizes available technology for communication, documentation, and locating information regarding unusual clinical situations, and contributes to the knowledge and skill of other nursing staff through formal or informal teaching and professional activities. Education: Attains knowledge and competence reflecting current nursing practice and demonstrates commitment to lifelong learning. Communication: Communicates effectively in a variety of formats in all areas of practice. Leadership: Demonstrates leadership in the professional practice setting and within the profession. Professional Practice Evaluation: Evaluates own nursing practice against professional practice standards, guidelines, statutes, rules, and regulations. Education Qualifications Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited college or university is preferred. Experience Requirements 1 year of RN experience is required. Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Able to communicate effectively in English. Licenses and Certifications Current American Heart Association Certification for Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (BLS). Current American Heart Association Certification for Advanced Cardiac Life Support for Healthcare Providers (ACLS). CA‑RN (Registered Nurse). Physical Demands and Work Conditions Frequent lifting of patients and equipment, bending, stooping, and walking. The work environment involves moderate risks or discomforts requiring special safety precautions, such as exposure to contagious disease, radiation, or infection, and dealing with emotionally disturbed patients. Protective clothing or gear may be required. Blood Borne Pathogens Category I - Tasks involving exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues.
