This role will lead the design, development, enhancement, and modernization of mission critical IBM i applications that support key business functions. The ideal candidate is an expert RPG developer who combines strong technical depth with modern engineering practices, API development, AI powered software delivery, and technical leadership. This individual will drive application modernization efforts, improve development productivity through AI tools and agents, mentor team members, and partner closely with business and technology stakeholders to deliver innovative, high quality solutions. This is a highly visible role requiring strong communication skills, technical leadership, and the ability to translate business needs into scalable technology solutions.Key ResponsibilitiesApplication Development & ModernizationDesign, develop, maintain, and enhance enterprise applications using RPG IV, RPGLE, Free Format RPG, CLLE, SQL, and DB2 for iLead modernization of legacy IBM i applications through modular architecture, service programs, APIs, and modern development practicesAnalyze, design, code, test, implement, and support business critical applicationsIdentify and reduce technical debt while improving application scalability, maintainability, and performanceDatabase & Integration DevelopmentDesign and optimize DB2 for i database solutions utilizing Embedded SQL and advanced SQL capabilitiesDevelop and support APIs, web services, and integrations between IBM i and enterprise platformsTroubleshoot and resolve complex application and database performance issuesAI Powered Software EngineeringLeverage AI development tools such as GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, Claude Code, and agentic AI solutions to accelerate development, testing, code analysis, documentation, and modernization effortsBuild and implement AI driven development practices that improve engineering productivity and software qualityEvaluate emerging AI technologies and identify opportunities to automate software delivery activitiesTechnical LeadershipMentor and develop engineering team members through technical guidance, code reviews, and best practicesEstablish coding standards, documentation practices, and quality expectationsPartner with business, product, infrastructure, operations, and vendor teams to deliver technology solutions aligned with business objectivesCommunicate technical designs, risks, dependencies, and recommendations to technical and business stakeholdersRequired Qualifications5+ years of IBM i application development experienceExpert level proficiency in RPG IV, RPGLE, Free Format RPG, CLLE, DB2 for i, and Embedded SQLProven experience modernizing large IBM i applications and reducing technical debtExperience designing and developing APIs, web services, and enterprise integrationsStrong understanding of application architecture, design patterns, and software engineering best practicesExperience mentoring developers and providing technical leadership.Hands on experience utilizing AI powered development tools such as GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, Claude Code, or similar platformsExperience building, implementing, or leveraging AI agents to improve software development, testing, documentation, and engineering productivityStrong problem solving, communication, and stakeholder management skillsPreferred QualificationsExperience with Java, Python,.NET, or other modern programming languagesExperience integrating IBM i applications with cloud platforms and SaaS solutionsExperience with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and DevOps practicesExperience with event driven architecture and modern integration frameworksExperience in healthcare, insurance, or other highly regulated industriesIBM i related certificationsEducation:Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience (Highschool diploma plus 4 years relevant work experience)Anticipated Weekly Hours40Time TypeFull timePay RangeThe typical pay range for this role is:$83,430.00 - $166,860.00This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors.
