Correctional Sergeant ll - Anson Correctional Institution

Position Summary The NC Department of Adult Correction seeks a Correctional Sergeant II (S) to work at Anson Correctional Institution, a medium and close custody facility for female offenders. The position reports to a Correctional Housing Unit Manager II and is responsible for first‑line supervision of Correctional Officer II’s. Responsibilities Assign lower‑level custody staff to specific areas or posts. Evaluate and oversee officer activities and performance, ensuring custody, security, and welfare of offenders is maintained. Coordinate work schedules to ensure shift coverage, implement SOPs, and enforce rules and regulations according to policy. Act as the highest‑ranking custody staff or Officer‑in‑Charge (OIC) when required, managing the facility. Ensure staff are fully trained and compliant with proper conduct, actions, and procedures. Maintain facility security through regular inspections to ensure compliance with governing regulations and standards related to facility maintenance, health, and safety of offenders. Communicate effectively with staff during drills, searches, and emergency situations. Respond to emergency situations such as distress codes, escapes, and transportation of offenders. Conduct and/or supervise searches of offenders, offender living areas, and work areas for contraband. Investigate and take action when appropriate regarding security issues, incidents, disputes, and complaints. Prepare, review reports, and complete performance evaluations on subordinate staff. Qualifications Applicants must meet the minimum education and experience requirements listed in the vacancy announcement. Preferred qualifications include documented knowledge of Prison Policy and Procedures and/or Facility Operations. The selected candidate may work any shift and will be expected to work weekends and holidays to ensure 24/7 staff coverage.
