The Opportunity We are seeking a seasoned and strategic Vice President of Credit & Compliance to join our executive team. This leader will own and lead the company’s Compliance, Risk, Fraud, and BSA/AML programs while also holding oversight responsibility for the credit modeling strategy across our lending products. While this role does not directly lead the credit underwriting team, it plays a critical role in influencing the credit framework and ensuring our decisioning models align with sound risk management principles. We’re looking for a senior operational leader—someone experienced in building scalable, resilient processes—who thrives in fast-paced, evolving environments and maintains exceptionally high standards for regulatory compliance, operational discipline, and executional excellence. Key Responsibilities Lead Compliance, Risk, Fraud, and BSA/AML programs across all lending products, ensuring regulatory alignment, proactive risk identification, and strong internal controls. Own the credit modeling strategy—collaborate with underwriting and data science teams to define, monitor, and refine credit scoring models, pricing rules, and decisioning thresholds. Act as the company’s regulatory conscience—ensuring internal teams understand, respect, and operate within all applicable frameworks (UDAAP, ECOA, BSA, etc.). Drive operational maturity by developing playbooks, processes, and systems that enable repeatability, transparency, and risk mitigation at scale. Partner with executive leadership to ensure that compliance and credit risk functions support growth without compromising governance or operational integrity. Serve as the point of contact for regulatory and banking partners on matters relating to credit risk and compliance oversight. Perform regular risk assessments, policy reviews, and program enhancements to ensure alignment with evolving business needs and regulatory expectations. Foster a culture of accountability, ethical conduct, and proactive problem-solving across teams. What You Bring 10+ years of senior experience in credit risk, compliance, operational risk, or fraud prevention within fintech, financial services, or lending. Deep understanding of small business credit risk, regulatory compliance (e.g., BSA/AML, UDAAP, ECOA), and fraud management frameworks. Proven operational leadership experience, with a demonstrated ability to design and scale processes that support efficiency, resilience, and accountability. Strong executive presence, with the ability to influence cross-functional teams and communicate with regulators, board members, and strategic partners. Track record of navigating ambiguity and adapting quickly while maintaining structure, discipline, and regulatory rigor. Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills. Why Backd?
