Tech - Sterile Processing Tech

Job Description

Job Summary:
The Sterile Processing Tech is responsible for ensuring the proper decontamination, disinfection, sterilization, and packaging of surgical instruments and equipment. This role supports both the MEMC OR and other service areas, maintaining sterile processes in accordance with industry standards and facility policies.

Responsibilities:

• Thoroughly disassemble instruments and equipment to remove debris and surgical soil prior to sterilization or high-level disinfection.
• Operate and validate multi-step sterilization procedures, including autoclaving, following manufacturer instructions and AAMI guidelines.
• Maintain detailed records of all sterilization processes, including biological monitoring results and quality assurance checks.
• Communicate effectively with healthcare providers and staff to troubleshoot instrument shortages and suggest suitable alternatives.
• Verify proper functioning of sterilization equipment, report issues, and coordinate maintenance or repairs as necessary.
• Support training and certification of team members on sterilization processes and participate in ongoing education to maintain competency.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Certification in Sterile Processing and/or Technology through CBSPD or HPSA is mandatory.
• Minimum of one year of healthcare experience preferred.
• Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required.
• Knowledge of infection control, surgical instrumentation, sterile techniques, and inventory management preferred.
• Strong communication, organizational, and computer skills.
