X-Ray Technologist

The X-Ray Technologist operates or oversees the operation of radiologic and magnetic imaging equipment. They produce images of the body for diagnostic purposes. Responsible for preparing the patient for radiological procedures. They adhere to safety measures to ensure compliance with regulations and the safety of patients and staff. The technologist identifies patient service requirements by establishing personal rapport with patients. They gain patient cooperation by reducing anxieties and providing explanations of treatment. The role involves preparing patients for radiological procedures by positioning them and adjusting immobilization devices. Technologists also adjust equipment controls to set exposure factors. They minimize radiation to patients and staff by practicing radiation protection techniques. This includes using beam restrictive devices, patient shielding, and knowledge of exposure factors. The technologist adheres to established infection control policies and procedures. They maintain the production and quality of radiographs by following established standards and procedures. This includes processing radiographs and observing radiographic results to make necessary adjustments. Documentation of patient care services is an essential responsibility. The technologist charts in patient and department records, including the completion and verification of exams. Ensuring the operation of radiology equipment involves completing preventive maintenance requirements. They follow manufacturer's instructions, troubleshoot malfunctions, and call for repairs. Maintaining equipment inventories and evaluating new equipment and techniques is also part of the role. Radiology supplies inventory must be checked regularly to determine inventory levels. Technologists anticipate needed supplies to maintain availability. They maintain a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations. Maintaining professional and technical knowledge is essential. This is achieved by meeting regulatory CME requirements, attending educational workshops, and reviewing professional publications. The technologist contributes to team efforts by accomplishing related results as needed. Completing yearly Age Specific Competency is part of their responsibilities. Additional relevant duties may be assigned as needed.
