Job Description and Duties

Limited term 12 months; may be extended up to 24 months or become permanent.

This is the advanced journey level which regularly performs a variety of the most difficult duties and is expected to consistently exercise a high degree of initiative, independence and originality in performing assigned tasks. Positions at this level regularly require detailed and sensitive public contact and/or independent origination of correspondence involving the knowledge and application of detailed regulations, policies and procedures (e.g., positions such as secretaries to major division chiefs and one-person field office assignments comprised of a wide variety of responsibilities). Good judgment and the ability to communicate effectively is of primary importance at this level. Typically, the work at this level is rarely reviewed. In addition, positions may have responsibility for functional guidance in training and assisting less experienced employees.

Working Conditions

CCI is a Multi-level, Sensitive Needs Yard, facility consisting of three (3) facilities, encompassed within a campus style layout with varied terrain. Work in this location may require exposure to varied temperatures dependent upon the season.

California Correctional Institution is in the Tehachapi Mountains approximately 325 miles south of Sacramento and approximately 120 miles north of Los Angeles.

-15 minute commute from Tehachapi City, 1 hour 15 minute commute from Lancaster/Palmdale and 1 hour commute from Bakersfield.

Special Requirements

• The position(s) require(s) the ability to type at a minimum speed as designated on the Class Specifications (link available in the additional documentation section). You must obtain a valid typing certificate confirming your ability to meet the minimum typing speed, prior to being hired. Candidates new to CDCR/CCHCS are required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan Fingerprinting, as well as a Tuberculosis test/evaluation prior to  appointment, followed by department annual Tuberculosis testing/evaluation thereafter.

  TYPING CERTIFICATE

  A Typing Certificate is required and must be submitted with your Examination/ Employment Application (STD. 678). Applications received without an appropriate Typing Certificate will be rejected for being incomplete and will not be considered.

  State departments will honor typing certificates issued within the last 4 years, proctored, and certified from a five (5) minute typing test that meets the CalHR requirements, with a minimum of 40 WPM. Original typing cert will be accepted if you are a current state OT(T) seeking transfer.
