Environmental Scientist - Entry to Junior

Opportunity Tetra Tech is looking for a full‑time, entry to junior level, Environmental Scientist Task Lead on the West Coast. You may work from home on the west coast or in one of our Tetra Tech offices. Position Summary Provide project coordination support on Tetra Tech Inc.'s multiple contracts for the United States Postal Service (USPS). Essential Job Functions Plan and coordinate federal, state, and local government planned construction management and emergency response activities. Coordinate multiple hazardous materials projects (asbestos, lead paint, mold, air, universal wastes, etc.) for government clients, including surveys, preparation of technical specifications, and third‑party oversight. Perform work under the direction of the project manager throughout the project life cycle, including scope development, solicitations, proposal development, scheduling, and fieldwork oversight. Prepare technical reports such as third‑party oversight reports, completion reports, Phase I & II reports, remedial work plans, and facility assessment tools. Plan elements such as reviewing, analyzing, integrating, interfacing and coordinating federal, state, local, and regional contingency and emergency response plans and protocols. Provide professional staff guidance, recommendations, protocols, technologies, equipment, materials, and personnel for implementing projects for federal clients. Oversee contractors on indoor and outdoor work sites, utilizing health & safety protocols. Provide technical support for performing, assessing, and developing mitigation options, plans, guidance and reports for threats to human health and the environment, including risk assessments and implementation of mitigation measures. Required Qualifications 0‑2+ years of experience in practical scientific, project management, environmental engineering, construction management, or environmental consulting work. Experience managing multiple hazardous materials projects for government clients, including surveys, technical specifications, and third‑party oversight. Experience planning and coordinating federal, state, local, and regional contingency and emergency response plans and protocols. Experience providing professional staff guidance, recommendations, protocols, technologies, equipment, materials, and personnel for federal projects. Understand health and safety, ecological and human health protocols for indoor and outdoor work sites. Bachelor's degree or higher in Industrial Hygiene, environmental, or physical sciences from an accredited U.S. institution. Preferred Qualifications Experience working for or with federal agencies. Experience working for or with the United States Postal Service (USPS). Experience preparing technical reports of various sizes. Knowledge of determining federal, state and local environmental laws and statutes. Prior consulting experience and client collaboration. 40‑hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification. 30‑hour OSHA Construction Safety certification. EPA HERA Building Inspection License and/or EPA Lead Inspector credentials. ASTM E1527 Phase I Environmental Site Assessment. State Asbestos Building Inspector Certification. State Lead Inspector Certification or EPA Lead Inspector License. Work Environment / Physical Requirements Primarily desk work; occasional (approx. 25%) travel and fieldwork on the west coast and nationwide. Travel may be on short notice or planned in advance. Work prolonged periods using a computer. Travel to work sites; work long days and weekends to accommodate field schedules. Ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally. Wear personal protective gear as needed. Walk on uneven terrain in disaster situations. Must drive; pass background check and maintain valid driver’s license. Additional Information Full‑time; Monday‑Friday schedule; flexible work schedule. Approximately 25% travel on the west coast and nationwide. May need to work nights and weekends for emergency response. Remote work from home on the west coast or in a west coast Tetra Tech office.
