Summary This is an OPEN CONTINUOUS ANNOUNCEMENT and will remain open until September 30, 2026. The initial cut‑off date for referral of eligible applications and subsequent cut‑off dates are on the 1st of each month. Qualifications United States Citizenship: Non‑citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Degree: Doctor of Medicine or equivalent (osteopathic medicine) from a VA approved school for the year of completion. Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine in the subspecialty of gastroenterology in a U.S. State, Territory, Commonwealth or District of Columbia. Residency Training: Completion of an accredited core specialty training program approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs and eligible for board certification. Approved residencies include ACGME, AOA or other non‑U.S. residencies followed by at least five years of verified U.S. practice, as deemed appropriate by the local Medical Staff Executive Committee. Physician Resident Providers (PRPs) may be appointed under specific conditions; they must be fully licensed physicians and may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee‑basis. Duties The hospital provides primary care and specialty health services, including mental health services, physical therapy and rehabilitation, spinal cord injury treatment, and more. Located on the Georgia/South Carolina border, the city of Augusta, GA, supports a diverse economic region of the Central Savannah River Area. Major Duties/Responsibilities include (but are not limited to): Diagnose, treat, and manage patients referred for liver and GI disorders, including fatty liver disease, viral hepatitis, and pre/post care of liver transplant patients. Perform endoscopic procedures, care for patients in inpatient/outpatient clinics, and supervise trainees (GI fellows or medicine residents) when applicable. Perform diagnostic and therapeutic upper and lower endoscopy procedures, including PEG placement, esophageal dilation, live biopsy, paracentesis, and other basic therapeutics. Competence in ultrasound elastography is a plus but not required. Perform histories and physical examinations, endoscopy consultations, virtual visits (telehealth), and develop treatment and follow‑up plans. Complete patient encounters, inpatient consults, notes, and correctly code visits in accordance with guidelines. Conduct clinical reviews to triage urgency of visits for patients’ medical problems.
