Senior Field Loss Control Consultant NW Indiana/Illinois Border Company: AF Group (Lansing, Michigan). Location: Valparaiso, USA. Compensation: Competitive Compensation and Benefits Package. Pay Range: $82,400 - $138,050. Overview Responsible for providing consultation and training to employers regarding safety matters. Develop business partnership and ambassador‑type relationships with insured policyholders. Evaluate physical premises, equipment, materials, work practices, and safety policies and programs. Conduct safety surveys to gather information to assist in risk selection as part of the underwriting process. Work with management to develop loss control strategies that will have the greatest impact on company success measures. Responsibilities Identify and assess potentially hazardous conditions and unsafe acts that could impact employee claims; recommend mitigation measures. Review business processes, operations, and equipment; conduct technical research and produce clear, practical reports. Design, deliver, and present loss prevention and safety training to clients and internal stakeholders. Gather and communicate safety information to support underwriting risk selection. Develop, monitor, and evaluate accident, loss prevention, and safety programs for clients. Manage territory of assigned accounts, ensuring appropriate service level based on premium and employer size. Coordinate policyholder visits with business development, underwriting, and claims teams. Create safety brochures, materials, exhibits for promotion. Represent AF Group in industry safety groups, conferences, and community outreach. Maintain strong relationships with independent agents, addressing client and agent queries. Lead complex problem solving, demonstrating professional judgment and technical expertise. Collaborate across functions, providing guidance to and mentoring loss control staff. Requirements Education and Experience Associate’s degree in a related field and certification (such as ARM, ASP, CSP) required. Bachelor’s degree in occupational/industrial safety or related field preferred. Minimum seven years of relevant experience, including Workers Compensation insurance experience required. Technical and Interpersonal Skills Knowledge of key loss control standards, guidelines, techniques, and disciplines such as ergonomics, machine guarding, and environmental health. Ability to proactively identify risk factors at employer locations and communicate risk concerns effectively. Ability to analyze and evaluate risk factors by synthesizing data. Ability to mitigate risk and influence necessary change. Excellent time‑management, organizational, and problem‑solving skills. Proficient use of computers and company software; ability to navigate systems quickly and produce reports. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including effective presentations. Customer‑service orientation, responding to inquiries from agents, policyholders, regulators, managers, and employees. Ability to establish and maintain effective working and client relationships. Ability to analyze and interpret scientific, technical, and legal documents. Work independently in a home‑office environment with minimal supervision. Ability to operate monitoring equipment such as noise and air sampling devices and photographic equipment. Strong understanding of local, state, and federal regulations relevant to occupational safety and workers’ compensation. Experience in training, developing, and mentoring loss control staff. Ability to balance client needs with loss prevention and routine service. Ability to make competent, independent decisions and implement procedures and processes. Working Conditions Work performed in a virtual office and field setting; no unusual hazards. Travel required, including occasional overnight stays. Must possess a valid driver’s license meeting corporate standards.
