Job Description Summary

The Patient Care Technician (PCT) reports to the VIR Nurse Supervisor. Under the direct supervision of an APP, the PCT performs multi-skilled activities to support a patient-centered approach to patient care and achieve desired outcomes. A Patient Care Technician’s responsibility includes measuring and documenting vital signs. They also identify patient concerns and report them to their colleagues. A Patient Care Technician’s duty also includes moving, positioning, prepping and assisting the APP interprocedurally. An effective Patient Care Technician should have patience, empathy and intuition to serve their patients best as well as collaborate with APP for best practice. They also need good communication and organizational skills to interact with their Supervisor, APP, and fellow PCT.

Hours per week: 40

Scheduled Work Hours/Shift: 4-10 hour shifts per week. Monday-Friday. No weekends or nights.

Job Summary/Purpose : The Patient Care Technician (PCT) reports to the VIR Nurse Supervisor. A Patient Care Technician’s duty also includes moving, positioning, prepping and assisting the APP interprocedurally. An effective Patient Care Technician should have patience, empathy and intuition to serve their patients best as well as collaborate with APP for best practice. They also need good communication and organizational skills to interact with their Supervisor, APP, and fellow PCT.

Minimum Training and Education: A high school diploma or equivalent (GED) required. For a PCT II candidates must have one year of patient care work experience in a health care facility, Certified Nursing Assistant, EMT or Paramedic certification, bachelor’s degree or enrollment in a healthcare related program with successful completion of a Nursing Assistant, Medical Assistant, or Nursing Fundamentals course at an accredited institution or equivalent training preferred.

Required Licensure, Certifications, Registrations: Basic Life Support required within 2 weeks of hire. Thereafter, must maintain Current Basic Life Support (BLS), either a certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers (or AHA recognized equivalent) or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider.

For every 100 additional pounds, assistance will be required from another healthcare worker. 20 lbs. of force is needed to push a 400 lb. patient in a wheelchair on carpet. 25 lbs. of force is required to push a stretcher with a patient with one hand. Ability to maintain 20/40 vision, corrected, in one eye or with both eyes. (Continuous) Ability to see and recognize objects close at hand or at a distance. (Continuous) Ability to match or discriminate between colors. (Continuous) Ability to determine distance/relationship between objects; depth perception.
