Date: May 21, 2026 Location: DENTON, TX Agency: Health & Human Services Commission (HHSC), Admissions/Placement Unit – Denton State Supported Living Center Job Title: Social Worker III (licensed) Salary Range: $4,523.16 - $7,253.83 monthly Shift: Day – Full time, Regular, Exempt, Telework: Not Eligible, Travel: Up to 5% Overview Join HHSC to provide person‑centered social services to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities who are medically fragile or have behavioral challenges. This role involves complex social work duties, coordination of care, training, and supervision within community and health‑service settings. Essential Job Functions (EJFs) Attend work regularly; may work rotating schedules, extended shifts, or overtime as needed. Conduct interviews and conversations with individuals, legally authorized representatives, and agencies to create and update the individual's social history, assess support systems, and identify psychosocial, economic, and physical needs. Oversee communication among individuals, representatives, agencies, and providers; maintain open communication, obtain consents, and access external resources. Provide counseling on guardianship, living options, end‑of‑life planning, and rights in accordance with state and federal laws. Assign and supervise the work, time, and travel of Social Worker I and II positions and social work students; conduct hiring, training, evaluation, and counseling. Coordinate admissions, transfers, transitions, discharges, and furloughs; ensure proper documentation, medication, and personal possessions are addressed. Design, conduct, and develop individual and group training on rights, voting, citizenship, decision‑making, and self‑advocacy skills. Participate in residence and family meetings and internal/external work groups. Support disaster response, recovery, or continuity operations as needed, which may require alternate shift patterns or locations. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs) Knowledge of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, human growth and development, behavioral and mental health, development and emotional components of physical illness, and social work standards for case management. Ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally in individual and group settings. Ability to assign and supervise the work of others. Skill in managing assigned property with limited financial responsibilities. Adherence to Texas State Board of Social Work Examiners Code of Conduct, National Association of Social Workers Code of Ethics, and state policies. Licensure & Certifications Maintain licensed status with Texas Board of Social Work Examiners (LBSW, LMSW, or LCSW required; LMSW or LCSW preferred). Initial Screening Criteria Bachelor’s degree in social work and three years of social work experience, or, Master’s degree in Social Work. One year of experience working directly with persons with intellectual or developmental disabilities. Additional Requirements Pass a fingerprint criminal background check, pre‑employment drug screen, and registry checks (CANRS, Nurse Aide, Medication Aide, HHS List of Excluded Individuals/Entities). All applicants must be at least 18 years of age. May work overtime, extended hours, weekends, and holidays; flexibility in work hours required. All State Supported Living Center employees are subject to Random Drug Testing.
