Director: Grants – Institutional & Government

Full time: 37-40 hours a week

Reports to: President

$105,000 to $120,000

*This is an in-office position*

Key Responsibilities: People and Leadership

• Manage staff toward performance and retention
• Ensure 1x monthly work plan meetings and their documentation
• Evaluate staffing needs
• Assign and track staff buddies
• Provide guidance to managers for client relationships that lead to long term partnerships and good relationships and reviews of our work
• Promote and assist to develop the highest quality work product and standards
• Evaluate and encourage training and educational needs for staff
• Review staff time weekly and monitor productivity monthly 
• Assist with management of annual reviews, work plans, job descriptions, recruitment and termination, grievances
• Direct internal policies and procedures
• Monitor work product to ensure accuracy and confidentiality
• Assist the President to set the strategic vision for JMA
• Assist with new sales opportunities for JMA
• Present opportunities to clients that align with JMA services

Key Responsibilities: People and Client Services

• Bring key understanding and knowledge of regional, local and national funders 
• Provide the best client experience possible to every client
• Initiate and attend meetings with clients
• Oversight of OOOF planning and tracking for all staff to ensure work/assignments stay on track
• Assign 2 designated staff for review – grants side
• Put a timeline, documentation and review process in place
• Manage staff to assure consistent “new” client on-boarding
• Ensure managers are outreaching to funders/grantors for guidance and advice
• Plan and strategize with clients and JMA mgrs. to achieve revenue goals

Key Responsibilities: Grants

• Manage the portfolio of grant clients
• Includes planning, strategy
• Ensure grants and reports are written, reviewed and submitted on deadline- jump in to help write when needed!
• Attend and direct meetings with clients
• Work directly with staff to create snapshots and grant calendars, keep them updated and presented to clients on a quarterly basis
• Contact funders directly to learn about their giving and stay connected to the grant-maker community
• Direct grant research and assign as appropriate
• Review grant RFPs
• Review funding sources
• Identify Grant Arguments (Fit and Approach)
• Compile, write and edit grant applications, letters and queries exhibiting strong expository writing skills and a high-level command of grammar and spelling; responsible for editing all work before passed on for final edits, approval
• Work with clients and staff during the editing process to ensure edits are done correctly
• Review and approve budgets
• Manage regular progress reports to clients – workflow and assigned grants
• Follow up/stay connected to clients – at least 1 x a month (even for clients who JMA is not regularly engaged with)
• Assist with client program development as requested
• Manage grant reports; suggest evaluation processes 

Experience/Qualifications

• 5-8 years relevant experience
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience
• Prefer development experience working with nonprofit organization(s); private and public sector
• Self-starter with strong attention to detail, problem solving skills, and demonstrated ability to be flexible in work assignments 
• Proven organizational skills including the ability to multi-task, prioritize assignments, maintain data maintenance systems, and meet multiple deadlines
• Excellent writing/editing/drafting skills, research and information compilation skills
• Excellent interpersonal communication skills, demonstrated ability to work independently as well as with teams
• Excellent computer skills: Microsoft Office Suite

Benefits

• Bonuses are awarded to staff based on extraordinary work output, bringing in new clients and a recommendation from a manager. Additionally, awards of more ESST/PTO are/can be given in addition to or instead of a cash bonus.
• Overtime: (over 40 hours per week) paid at a rate of time and a half .
• Employee Safe and Sick Time (ESST) & Paid Time Off (PTO) – ESST/PTO will begin accruing upon hire. All employees will earn ESST/PTO at a rate of 0.0909 per hour worked. This equates to earning 1 hour of ESST/PTO for every 11 hours worked. Employees may choose to use their ESST/PTO award for mental or physical illness, treatment or preventative care; a family member’s mental or physical illness, treatment or preventative care; absence due to domestic abuse, sexual assault or stalking of the employee or a family member; death in an employee’s immediate family; closure of the employee’s workplace due to weather or public emergency or closure of a family member’s school or care facility due to weather or public emergency; when determined by a health authority or health care professional that the employee or a family member is at risk of infecting others with a communicable disease; vacation days; and holidays.

• Healthcare plan reimbursement is available to employees who are not covered under another(s) healthcare plan and are required to purchase an individual or family plan (being covered on a significant other or parents plan does not qualify). Healthcare reimbursement in the amount of $250.00 per month for an individual plan is available if you are the “primary” on your plan ($250 per month = $3,000.00 per year for insurance). Healthcare in the amount of $500.00 per month for a family plan is available if you are the “primary” on your family plan ($500 per month = $6,000 per year for insurance).
