Job Title: Medical Surgical Registered Nurse Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Medical / Surgical Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 11.5H Hours per Shift: 19:00 - 07:00 Experience: Minimum of 1.5 years of recent equivalent experience License: RN License or Compact License (Proof of State Residency Required) Certifications: BLS Must-Have: - Experience with chest tubes - Knowledge of drips such as Diltiazem, heparin, Lasix, insulin, or amiodarone - Skills with lines, tubes, and drains for post-surgical patients - Experience with trachs and laryngectomies - Ability to monitor telemetry - Familiarity with complex wounds - Central lines care and maintenance, including blood draws Description: The Medical Surgical RN will work on a busy inpatient surgical unit. This unit primarily cares for trauma patients and acute care surgical patients. It includes negative pressure rooms suitable for specific populations. Rehabilitating and supporting patient needs is the highest priority. Common diagnoses on this unit include spinal cord injuries, traumatic brain injuries, and orthopedic traumas. Acute care surgical diagnoses include hernia repair, small bowel obstructions, appendectomy, and cholecystectomy. Experience on a fast-paced medical surgical unit is required. Experience in a Level I trauma center is preferred, but several years at a Level II trauma center is acceptable. Patient ratios are 1:4 during the day shift and 1:5 during night shifts. LNA ratios to patients are 1:12.
