The Lead Mammography Technologist supervises and coordinates mammography services, ensuring high-quality imaging and patient care. The role requires closely working with Breast Imaging Manager to maintain workflow efficiency and resource optimization. The role performs diagnostic mammograms and other imaging procedures, maintains and manages imaging equipment, and oversees the training and performance of mammography staff. The role involves ensuring compliance with safety regulations, managing patient records, and collaborating with radiologists for accurate diagnoses. The position requires strong technical skills, leadership abilities, and a focus on maintaining a safe, efficient, and supportive work environment. Other information:
• Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Radiologic Technology or related field.
• Certification in Mammography from a recognized accrediting body (e.g., ARRT).
• Must have proficient mammography technical knowledge and skill set. This includes but is not limited to demonstrating efficient knowledge of all equipment and imaging techniques along with the ability to effectively troubleshoot issues as they arise.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective interpersonal relationships with physicians, management, peers, patients, and their visitors through effective communication, mutual support and respect.
• Demonstrates the ability and flexibility to effectively handle challenging and stressful situations and to balance and shift multiple priorities.
• Self-motivated to take initiative and must have the ability to work independently and within a team.
• Coordinate patient throughput and work with team to mitigate patient issues including service recovery when needed.
• Serves as a role model and mentor by demonstrating exceptional interpersonal communication and collaboration skills in the management of complex patient care situations.
• Must have at least 3 years of mammography experience.
Responsibilities:
• Assist the Breast Imaging Manager and coordinate daily mammography operations, ensuring adherence to protocols and quality standards.
• Perform diagnostic mammograms and other imaging procedures, providing accurate and timely results.
• Train, mentor, and manage a team of mammography technologists, fostering professional development and maintaining high performance.
• Ensure all equipment is maintained, calibrated, and functioning properly, and address any technical issues promptly.
• Review and evaluate mammography images for quality and accuracy, collaborating with radiologists to discuss findings and further actions.
• Ensure compliance with safety regulations, including infection control procedures and radiation safety practices.
• Works with Breast Imaging Manager and Lead Quality Control Technologist to maintain MQSA standards.
• Maintains patient privacy and confidentiality
• Works with Breast Imaging Manager and Lead Quality Control Technologists to maintain ACR accreditation in Mammography.
• Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
• Collaborates with the Breast Imaging Manager to facilitate the onboarding and skills evaluation of new hires
• Works closely with the Radiologists and Breast Imaging Manager to develop and implement policies and procedures.
• Monitors staff compliance with policies and procedures.
• Identifies opportunities for innovation and quality improvement; participates in innovation projects and the quality improvement process.
• Assist the Breast Imaging Manager on helping the team with questions regarding patient care, procedures, or equipment.
• Works with Breast Imaging Manager to review staff assignment and readjust staff assignment as changes occur to ensure adequate coverage and equal distribution of work and effort
• Ensure the optimization of templates to improve patient access and maximize the use of staff and clinical space
• Maintain frequent communication and escalate issues to Breast Imaging Manager for resolution.
