Engineering DirectorLarge industrial equipment manufacturer with 15 locations worldwide is hiring for an Engineering Director to oversee operations in North America. The ideal candidate will be forward thinking, a natural leader who has excellent problem-solving skills and has excellent oral and written communication skills. Option to work at the HQ in Grand Rapids, MI or in Chicago, IL. Full relocation assistance will be provided.SummaryAs the Director, you are responsible for managing the North American team and all the technical works related to equipment throughout the entire life cycle of the project. We are looking for someone to be the SME to interface with the customers to solve problems and to manage the engineering teams effectively across 3 facilities in NA.ResponsibilitiesManage 5 Engineering Managers and 25+ Engineers across several business units and operationsDevelop the strategy to organize, improve, develop the Engineering teamsDevelop and deliver multi-year strategies to drive and monitor improvement EquipmentCreate a motivational and supportive environment in which the Engineers are challenged and supportedProvide support to business development on developing realistic and efficient Solutions for the applicable business caseLead, support, mentor and improve with the Engineering Managers on the design through completion of the Equipment for projectsMonitor the engineering process based on quality and Total Cost of OwnershipCooperate with operations on continuous improvement of the EquipmentRequirementsBS/BA in Engineering is required, ideally in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or other Engineering degreesMasters or MBA is preferredSix-Sigma training / Black belt certifications preferred10+ years of experience in equipment manufacturing design expertiseEvidence of a strong background in system integrators, process equipment, conveyors / Material Handling, packaging systems and related equipment preferredWilling to travel on a regular basis (30%) or as neededMust have experience managing a team of Engineering Managers overseeing Mechanical Engineers, process engineers, NPD, and design engineeringOverall understanding of seeing products from birth to completion and understanding Engineering Change Orders (ECO’s), routings, rates, Bills of Materials, and relatedAble to communicate with customers and have strong presentation skills on solving equipment systems neededStrong written and verbal communication skills.Proficient with MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and ERP.Good planning and priority setting skills.Provides leadership and guidance to employees in the Department.
