Job Summary:
The Director of Counseling provides strategic leadership, clinical oversight, and direct mental health services for individuals affected by cancer, including patients, survivors, caregivers, and families. This role combines program leadership with a clinical caseload, to meet the needs of the counseling program and to ensure that services remain grounded in client needs and best practices in psychosocial oncology.

The Director ensures the delivery of high-quality, compassionate, evidence-based counseling services while actively providing individual and/or group therapy. This position plays a critical role in advancing the organization’s mission to improve emotional well-being and quality of life for those impacted by cancer.

Key Responsibilities:

·         Lead and enhance the counseling program aligned with organizational goals

·         Supervise, train, and develop counseling staff while fostering a collaborative team culture.

·         Build and maintain partnerships with healthcare providers and community organizations.

·         Maintain an active clinical caseload consistent with organizational needs.

·         Provide individual, family, and/or group counseling to clients affected by cancer.

·         Conduct psychosocial assessments, develop treatment plans, and document services in compliance with clinical standards.

·         Deliver crisis intervention and support for clients experiencing acute distress.

·         Model best practices in compassionate, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive care.

·         Ensure adherence to clinical, legal, and ethical standards (e.g., HIPAA, licensing requirements).

·         Ensure counseling services comply with all applicable regulations and professional standards.

·         Track program outcomes and identify opportunities to improve client access and equity.

Qualifications

·         Experience in leading a counseling team in an independent practice setting.

·         Master’s degree in Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, or a related field.

·         Active clinical licensure (e.g., LCSW preferred) in IN.

·         Minimum of 5–7 years of clinical experience, including direct counseling practice in an outpatient setting.

·         Ability and willingness to maintain an active client caseload.

·         At least 3 years of supervisory or program leadership experience.

·         Knowledge of psychosocial issues related to cancer and chronic illness.
