Summary Replace 0.8 FTE Phlebotomist who transitioned to per diem status. Responsible for collecting and processing blood specimens from patients for laboratory testing. Operates under moderate supervision, resolving common issues independently. Provides training to new employees and students as assigned. This position requires patient care: Yes. Essential Functions Obtain quality blood samples using a variety of phlebotomy methods for all age groups. Ensure accurate patient identification, quality specimen labeling, processing, handling, and transportation of specimens. Assist in the recovery of patients experiencing adverse reactions and provide a rapid response to medical emergencies in the inpatient setting. Communicate effectively with patients and patient care teams, explaining procedures and addressing patient concerns to ensure a high level of customer satisfaction. Troubleshoot and resolve specimen, order, and common operational issues within the work area. Provide some training and education to new staff and students. Handle sharps and biohazardous materials in accordance with regulatory requirements. Work fluently with computer programs and systems, and comply with HIPAA regulations. Perform other tests, administration, and specimen collection as assigned. Qualifications Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent required. Licenses and Credentials: Phlebotomy Technician [National Certification] – generic – HR Only preferred; Class D Passenger Vehicle Driver's License [State License] – generic – HR Only preferred. Experience: 1–2 years in phlebotomy required. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Demonstrate proficiency in proper collection methods and processing of all specimens, including correct tube selection, volume, and stability requirements. Possess good written and oral communication skills, the ability to prioritize work, manage time wisely, and adjust to changes in work volumes and projects. Superior customer service skills, with the ability to show empathy and respect for patients' privacy and autonomy. Demonstrate problem‑solving skills and can manage complex patient collections. Work independently and collaborate effectively within a team, actively partnering with team members by fostering a collaborative work environment and respecting individuals with varied experiences and perspectives.
