School Counselor in Belen, NM

Bring your passion for supporting K-12 students as a Recreational Therapist in a dynamic contract role located near Belen, NM. This full-time, onsite position offers the opportunity to work across multiple school sites, making a positive difference in the lives of diverse learners from August 1, 2025, to May 22, 2026. The work schedule follows a consistent Monday to Friday, 8am-3:30pm routine, providing a balanced structure while traveling within the district.


Essential Qualifications:

• Current New Mexico Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) certification as outlined by state regulations.
• Experience working as a school counselor, behavior specialist, or recreational therapist in academic settings.
• Strong understanding of student needs across the autism spectrum, as well as ADHD, developmental delays, and behavioral challenges.
• Ability to travel between multiple school sites as needed.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage effectively with students, staff, and families.

Key Responsibilities:

• Guide students with autism in social skills development through group interactive games.
• Support students with ADHD by implementing structured physical activities that help manage energy levels.
• Provide adapted sports and recreation programs to assist students with developmental delays in enhancing their gross motor skills.
• Teach students with disabilities how to access and utilize community resources for recreational integration.
• Employ relaxation techniques and coping strategies to support students facing stress, anxiety, or depression.

In this role, you'll work with approximately 35 students, tailoring your interventions to foster growth, inclusion, and success. Your expertise will empower students to thrive both in and out of the classroom, making a meaningful impact every day.
