The SC Respite Coalition (SCRC) is seeking an Assistant Director to join a growing team dedicated to supporting family caregivers caring for loved ones in the community. As the statewide Respite Coalition and a member of a national network of respite coalitions across the country, this position provides opportunities for growth and creativity in developing respite resources as well as engaging community, state, and national partners to expand respite for those caring for others. Job Purpose The Assistant Director position is full-time (40 hours/week) with our statewide non‑profit organization. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Assistant Director is primarily responsible for assisting with oversight of all agency programs and objectives associated with grants and contracts to include program development, implementation, staff oversight, managing budgets and completing required reporting. In addition, the Assistant Director promotes the SCRC mission and programs, leads key initiatives (e.g., regional committees on respite across the state, caregiver/respite events, information sessions and training programs), and works with community partners to grow respite opportunities. This position is in Columbia, SC and is not remote. General Responsibilities Assist Executive Director with daily administrative duties and operations. Collaborate with staff to improve, streamline and create processes/tools to improve efficiency, effectiveness and service delivery. Assist with statewide planning and work with state and regional Advisory Committees. Assist in securing grants and contracts to support the mission of the SCRC. Perform tasks to ensure grant/contract activities are completed in specified timeframes to meet contractual obligations with required documentation. Assist with outreach, awareness, education, meetings, and events. Conduct occasional workshops and conference presentations. Work with community partners to promote and develop respite opportunities across the state. Assist with identifying and creating fundraising efforts and establishing a fundraising strategy. Provide occasional training and information on respite resources for family caregivers, and coach them in creating their own circles of support as needed. Monitor and advance agency objectives with accurate data, reporting and advocacy. Perform other duties, as required. Experience/Skills/Abilities Knowledge of respite and other long‑term care services and support for family caregivers and/or children and adults with disabilities or older adults. Knowledge of grants procurement and management and the grant process. Program development and/or supervision with success in meeting deadlines and objectives. Success in coordinating fundraising. Efficiency in Microsoft Office and ability to learn other software applications and systems. Understanding of QuickBooks online and fiscal aspects of non‑profit management. Ability to document and train others on workflow processes. Effective and professional written and oral communication skills/Public Speaking. Organization and time‑management skills and ability to work with minimal supervision. Ability to work effectively in a team environment, motivate and provide leadership to a team. Ability to work successfully with a diverse group of people including caregivers, staff, providers, committees, faith and community groups, and funders. Exceptional customer service competency and high expectations for quality. Accuracy, attention to detail and strong organizational skills are required. Ability to prioritize and manage numerous projects at once. Experience as a family caregiver of a child/adult with disabilities or special needs of older adults (aging) preferred. Minimum Education and Experience Bachelor's degree in social work, public health, business administration, psychology, or other relevant fields of study or equivalent education and experience, MSW preferred. Any combination of education and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills and ability is qualifying, unless otherwise specified. 2 years of experience in direct non‑profit program management, development and/or fundraising may be substituted for education requirements. 2 years of organizational/program management experience. 2 years’ experience in caregiving, disabilities or aging field or a related state agency. Physical Requirements Ability to sit, stand, stop, and bend frequently. Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. The ability to be on your feet for extended lengths of time involves walking. Have ability to lift 50lbs. Verification and Additional Requirements Eligibility to work in the United States. Be able to pass a Criminal Background Check. Willingness to work variable hours occasionally, including evenings, weekends and select holidays. (Standard schedule is M-F 8am-5pm) Must have valid driver’s license and reliable motor vehicle transportation. Authorized job‑related mileage is reimbursed. Compensation Salary - $50,000 - $55,000 annually. Paid holidays, paid leave, health insurance, optional retirement. About Respite Respite is regular, temporary breaks from caregiving duties for the caregiver to rest, relax, recharge, and practice self‑care. Respite is an essential practice that keeps families together by protecting the physical, mental, and emotional health of the caregiver. The SC Respite Coalition works to help family caregivers get the breaks they need. We educate about the necessity of respite and refer to services, programs, and funding sources that can assist them in planning and taking regular time off from their caregiving responsibilities.
