Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Stepdown Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12 Hour Nights Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 2 years License: Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Strong MedSurg Stepdown experience Ability to titrate drips Ability to read cardiac strips Description: This position is for a Registered Nurse in a stepdown unit. The unit has a total of 32 beds. The nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:3 for stepdown assignments and 1:4 for combo assignments. Common diagnoses include post-surgical thoracic and medicine patients. Nurses are required to titrate drips based on specific parameters. The medications that may be titrated include Cardizem, Amiodarone, Dopamine, Nitro, Esmolol, Heparin, and Lasix. Charge nurses and house supervisors are available in-house. There are CNAs available per shift to assist. The unit does not utilize ventilators, but BIPAP and tracheostomy care are provided. Nurses are responsible for rhythm interpretation and must chart the patient rhythm with assessments every four hours, or more frequently as needed. Telemetry monitors are available for nurses to view heart rhythms, and these are integrated into patient charts. The position requires availability for weekend shifts, typically three weekends in a four-week schedule. Travelers may be required to work holidays as needed. There is no call or standby requirement for this position. The dress code includes royal blue scrubs. This role does not require a BSN.
