Openings as of 5/17/2026 District Instructional Coordinator for Physical Education/Wellness – 2026‑2027 School Year JobID: 6408 Position Type: Administration/Professional Services (Certified)/ Coordinator Date Posted: 3/22/2026 Location: District Office Tolleson Union High School District #214 Purpose The Instructional Coordinator for Physical Education/Wellness is responsible for improving student achievement by aligning Physical Education/Wellness Curriculum and Instruction to Arizona State Standards. Required Qualifications Valid Arizona secondary PE/Health teaching certificate. Master’s degree in education or related field. Minimum of 5 years teaching experience in a PE/Health classroom. Minimum of 3 years of leadership experience. Valid AZ Department of Public Safety (DPS) Identity Verified Print (IVP) Fingerprint Clearance Card. Evidence of experience in the design, implementation, and evaluation of Arizona Academic Standards. Evidence of collaborative leadership. Experience in professional staff development. Preferred Qualifications Endorsements in any related field. Bilingual in English and Spanish. Essential Functions Supervises and leads development of explicit written curriculum in designated content areas, including curriculum guides, scope and sequence, and unit plans using the common district template. Creates and uploads common district assessments aligned with state and district standards. Performs consistent review and evaluation of curriculum guides, end‑of‑unit assessments, and End Course Assessments (EOCAs) and establishes collaborative plans for revision. Meets regularly with designated department chairs and establishes learning communities by subject and content areas. Monitors and evaluates vertical and horizontal assessment and alignment of curriculum by subject and content areas. Meets regularly with Curriculum and Instruction leadership to establish priorities for curriculum revision and professional staff development needs. Provides timely updates to other stakeholders, including APIs, APRs, department chairs, and the curriculum and instruction team. Works collaboratively with campus administrators, staff developers and department chairs to address curriculum and staff development needs related to the school improvement plan process. Attends workshops and researches scientifically based best instructional practices and shares information with administrative and certified staff. Works with Curriculum and Instruction leadership to interpret data for department, school‑wide and district goal setting and planning. Participates in updates to the Academic Planning Guide as an APG committee member. Takes part in review of proposed new courses. Participates in classroom observations to collect data and provide support to teachers and administrative staff regarding implementation of curriculum and instructional practices. Oversees and leads the textbook adoption process, following all governing board, state, and district policies. Assesses staff development needs in assigned content areas and conducts staff development workshops. Demonstrates knowledge of state assessments including ACT, ACT Aspire, and alternative tests. Participates on the district's Special Olympics Unified leadership team and supports each site's Unified teams. Supports the district and sites with Unified programs, Special Olympics paperwork or reports, expansion of Unified Sports and programs, inclusive youth leadership, and whole‑school engagement. Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities SKILLS: operate standard office equipment, utilize pertinent software applications, plan and manage projects, and prepare and maintain accurate records. KNOWLEDGE: basic math (fractions, percents, ratios); read technical information; compose documents; facilitate group discussions; analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions; knowledge of State Guidance Standards, federal, state, county, local, and district codes, policies, regulations, and laws. ABILITY: schedule activities, meetings, and events; gather and collate data; use basic job‑related equipment; direct others in a wide variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing defined processes; operate equipment using standardized methods; work with diverse individuals and groups; maintain confidentiality; meet deadlines; set priorities; establish and maintain effective working relationships; problem‑solve by identifying issues and creating action plans. Responsibilities The Physical Education/Wellness Coordinator will be responsible for creating and implementing health and wellness programs and initiatives to promote a healthy and productive work environment, requiring excellent communication and interpersonal skills and a commitment to positive outcomes for employees. Physical Demands The role requires lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; fine finger dexterity. The job requires 70% sitting, 15% walking, and 15% standing, with exposure to risk of injury or illness. Noise level is moderate to loud. Travel between district campuses and to outside locations is required. Reporting Reports to: Director of the Office of Learning and Academic Success Term of Employment Eleven‑month, full time Evaluation Position will be evaluated annually as outlined in Governing Board Policy Manual.
