Diesel Fleet Technician/Mechanic

Lucky’s Energy Service is looking for a Diesel Fleet Technician / Mechanic to join our team and help keep our fleet of fuel trucks safe, reliable, and on the road. Lucky's Energy Service operates a fleet of fuel trucks supporting our customers throughout Northern Illinois and the surrounding area. Our trucks are an essential part of our business, and our maintenance team plays a critical role in keeping that operation moving. This is a great opportunity for a motivated diesel technician who wants to build a career working on heavy-duty commercial vehicles in a fleet environment . We are especially interested in candidates who have recently graduated from a diesel technology program and are looking for an opportunity to put their training to work. At Lucky’s, you won't be turning wrenches on customer vehicles all day. You’ll be working on our own fleet , learning our equipment, understanding how our operation works, and taking ownership of keeping our trucks running safely and efficiently. Role Responsibilities: As a Diesel Fleet Technician, you will be responsible for the inspection, maintenance, troubleshooting, diagnosis, and repair of our heavy-duty fuel trucks. Responsibilities will include: Perform preventative maintenance and scheduled service on heavy-duty diesel trucks Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and electronic problems Troubleshoot engine, transmission, electrical, brake, suspension, cooling, fuel, and emissions systems Perform repairs and component replacement as needed Inspect trucks to identify potential problems before they become breakdowns Use diagnostic software and electronic service information to identify and resolve faults Perform routine DOT-related inspections and maintenance Maintain accurate records of repairs, parts, and maintenance performed Communicate clearly with the Head Mechanic and operations team regarding truck condition and repair needs Keep the shop, tools, equipment, and work areas clean and organized Follow all company safety procedures and proper maintenance practices Take ownership of assigned repairs and follow jobs through to completion Help keep our fleet available and ready for our drivers every day Requirements: Own professional mechanic's tools Strong mechanical aptitude Ability to troubleshoot and diagnose problems Ability to meet the physical requirements of the position Strong work ethic and dependable attendance Commitment to safety and quality Qualifications: We're looking for someone who is mechanically inclined, dependable, curious, and takes pride in doing things the right way. The ideal candidate will have: A technical associate's degree, diesel technology degree, or completion of a diesel technician program preferred 1+ year of heavy-duty truck repair experience preferred Previous diagnostic and troubleshooting experience A basic understanding of diesel engines and heavy-duty vehicle systems Ability to read and understand service information, wiring diagrams, and repair procedures Ability to use hand and power tools safely and effectively Ability to provide and maintain your own professional mechanic's tools Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship A strong safety mindset Good communication and interpersonal skills The ability to work independently while also being a dependable member of a team A willingness to learn, ask questions, and continuously improve Preferred (but not required): PACCAR engine and truck knowledge Cummins engine knowledge or factory training Cummins INSITE experience PACCAR DAVIE4 experience ESA diagnostic software experience ASE certifications CDL Previous fleet maintenance experience Experience with Class 6/7/8 trucks Diesel technology degree, associate's degree, or technical program certificate 1+ year heavy-duty truck repair experience INSITE, ESA, or DAVIE4 experience ASE certifications CDL Physical Requirements: This position requires the ability to: Work in confined spaces Work at elevated heights Climb ladders and access equipment on heavy-duty trucks Frequently stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, and reach Lift and carry up to 50 pounds Work safely around heavy equipment and vehicles Stand and work for extended periods Safely perform the physical tasks associated with heavy-duty truck maintenance and repair The Person We're Looking For: Technical skills can be taught.
