EHS Engineer

At DAVIS, we're redefining the way people experience construction by building success for all.The role of the Environmental Health + Safety (EHS) Engineer is to eliminate or control hazardous conditions resulting from human error, equipment and machine operations which may lead to human injury and / or property damage. Must apply advanced mathematical techniques; professional engineering principles, methods, and techniques; safety-related elements of the physical sciences, ergonomics, psychology and physiology; and safety principles, standards, practices and analytical techniques.ESSENTIAL DUTIES + RESPONSIBILITIESPerform responsibilities with excellence in service, integrity, inclusion and building relationships as exemplified in DAVIS Core ValuesPerform routine walk through inspections of construction areas on small- to medium-sized projects with little to no assistance from other department members; and large-sized projects with assistanceConduct routine EHS Audits and inspections on projects using DAVIS-provided softwareAssemble and deliver project start up safety packages for new projectsAssist teams in determining project signage and posting needsParticipate in project EHS kick off meetings with project teamPrepare and present content for internal project team meetings and trade partner meetingsReview JHAs for high hazard activitiesParticipate in crane plan reviewComplete Monthly Project EHS AssessmentParticipate in review of Monthly Project EHS Assessment with project teamRecord hours worked each week for all assigned projects for OSHA trackingProvide all information and documentation required on weekly incident logDistribute open issues reports to project teamsVerify and close all identified hazards on project sitesAble to research and collaborate to obtain information for EHS-related issuesParticipate in OSHA Inspections and consultationsAssist in personal injury and property damage accident investigations; compile data, photographs, and other necessary documentation for reporting purposesWork with subcontractors to develop overall satisfactory level of safety compliance on projectsDevelop and apply practical solutions for project safety issues with assistanceIdentify special protective and safety equipment needs for projects with assistanceProvide instruction for DAVIS Competent Person and other EHS-related classesEnforce EHS regulations with subcontractor and DAVIS personnelHelp develop corporate goals relating to company and project level EHS performanceAssist with EHS Initiatives and Business Plan itemsHelp develop and update corporate and project EHS policies and proceduresAssist in identification, analysis and control of occupational hazards requiring the application of specialized knowledge, skill and abilitiesReview proposed occupational safety policies, guidelines and standards to determine their consistency and recommend technical changes as neededApply knowledge of psychological and physiological factors to assist in the installation of safety features and controls, compensating for the possibility of human errors in the operation of machinery and equipmentAssist project teams in planning for high-risk activities and project team inspection schedulesPerform other duties as assignedDAVIS COMMON ATTRIBUTESSAFETY – Consistently works within DAVIS safety standards; promotes safety as a priority with coworkers, subcontractors and external clientsTEAM COLLABORATION – Works effectively within their own team and across the organization; promotes team atmosphere and culture; has a positive, can do attitudeCOMMITMENT TO QUALITY – Applies DAVIS standards to produce high quality work on a consistent basis; produces work that is accurate and reliable, actively demonstrates excellence in service; builds and maintains integrity as a core function of their job and in their relationships with othersCHAMPIONS DAVIS BUSINESS – Consistently markets DAVIS business within the scope of their job; actively seeks and / or supports new business opportunities; actively builds relationships and encourages others to do the sameKNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE + SPECIAL SKILLSRequiredBachelor’s degree in Environmental Health + Safety Sciences or related field; equivalent combinations of technical education and / or industrial related safety experience may substitute for educational requirement*Experience in occupational Environmental Health + Safety or a related fieldCurrent First Aid and CPR certificationsOSHA 30 hour for contractorsBasic knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations*Ability to recognize hazardous situations and recommend corrective measures*Decision making, research and analytical problem solving skills*Time management with the ability to organize, assess and prioritize multiple tasks, projects, and demands, and to work independently*Possess strong communication skills, and interact effectively at all levels within the organization and external to DAVIS*Construction industry experiencePHYSICAL JOB DEMANDSThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
