Direct Support Professional

Personal Support Program


PositionSummary : Assist in the supervision and training of individuals in thePersonal Support setting where they are living.


Qualifications : Minimumhigh school diploma; experience working with intellectual disabilitiespreferred; excellent driving record, clear background check.

ESSENTIALDUTIES :

A. AGENCY

1. Performsessential job duties with or without reasonable accommodations.

2. Knows andcomplies with all required policies, procedures, regulations, and guidelines ofTarget and has a clear understanding of the specific regulations used in theirdepartment. Follows regulations and guidelines when carrying out duties andresponsibilities.


3. Successfullycompletes all required in-service trainings and completes re-certifications asrequired; demonstrates a clear understanding of the issues presented intrainings; is eager to expand knowledge; keeps current with relevant changesand take appropriate steps to obtain needed information.


4. Performs dutiesin accordance with the philosophy, mission, and goals of the agency.


5. Works as aprofessional collaborative with all internal and external stakeholders inmodeling a safe, supportive, and respectful demeanor, ensuring the highestquality services to all Target participants.

6. Takes appropriateaction based on circumstances; provides pertinent and comprehensive informationto supervisory personnel.


7. Demonstrates theability to manage personal time by being punctual and gives sufficient noticeto immediate supervisor in case of tardiness or absenteeism per Target'sAttendance Policy.


8. Acts as anappropriate role model and representative of Target as an agency as well asthose employed by Target and those served. Choose appropriate personal attirebased on the circumstances. Maintains appropriate overall appearance anddemonstrates proper personal hygiene per Target's Attire and Grooming Policy.

9. Demonstrates awillingness to perform all essential duties and job functions with the safetyof the participants and self as a top priority; adheres to and complies withall safety guidelines taught in trainings.


B. DIRECT CARE

1. Provide directcare services and training to individuals.


a) As needed, assist individuals in their activities ofdaily living (ADL's) daily personal care and grooming, including care of body,hair, teeth, and clothing, etc.

b) Assistindividuals in the development of leisure time activities and recreation byencouraging participation in these activities or if need be, attending theseactivities with the individual. Leisure and recreation include activities thatare done outside of what is on the Person-Centered Plan (PCP). This can include but is not limited to;Special Olympics practices and competitions, meeting up with friends, gymmembership and attendance, class participation, volunteering opportunities.

c) Assist with the learning of new skills, in the homeand in the community. This may includebut is not limited to, situational awareness, laundry completion, mealpreparation, fitness class attendance.

d) When applicable assist with virtual experiences andsupports. There may be times whenvirtual support is needed. These will beprovided via Google Meets.

e) Maintain a family, individual or group-type atmospherefor individuals to live in.


f) Assist individuals in maintaining contact with familyand friends using the telephone, and/or mail.


g) Encourage individuals to share their daytimeexperiences with others.


2. Thetransportation of individuals in DSP's personal vehicle to communityevents. This always includes themaintenance of a valid driver's license and proper insurance.


3. Maintain closecontact with Program Coordinator to ensure a unified, consistent trainingprogram for supported individuals.

4. Maintains physical ability to restrain participants asneeded according to their behavioral program plans. The position also requires the ability tostand, bend, reach, lift 50 pounds, maneuver wheelchairs, and perform safetransfers of individuals.


5. Be able tocommunicate instructions and directions to the clients in a manner that iseasily understandable. This requires fluency in speaking the primary languageof the clients.


6. Demonstrate awillingness to perform essential job functions and duties with the safety ofthe clients and self being a top priority and adhere to and comply with allsafety guidelines taught in trainings.

7. Must complete allrequired documentation, including but not limited to; Clocking in and out ofshift utilizing the Maryland ISAS EVV system, Communication logs on CIMS, andfilling out timesheet on Paylocity.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES : Other dutiesas assigned by Supervisors.

SUPERVISION :The position is supervised by Program Coordinators and the Director of PersonalSupports.

EVALUATION :After an initial three-month period, then annually during term of employment.

TERMS : Thisis a Class 2, part-time/full-time, hourly, non-exempt position based on neededcoverage. This position is considered "essential" to maintain operations andservices to participants.

Benefits : All full-time employees working at least Sixty hours per pay period areeligible for health, vision, and dental benefits in addition to paid time off. Bothfull and part-time employees are eligible for retirement and Sick & Safe Leave.

Starting salary rangesfrom $22.00 - $24.00 per hour at our Carroll County Office, and $23.00 - $25.00per hour at our Montgomery County Office.
