Organization: West Michigan Therapy Dogs, Inc. (WMTD) Location: Hybrid in the Greater Grand Rapids Area Compensation: Unpaid internship for college credit (if applicable), gas cards for travel About West Michigan Therapy Dogs West Michigan Therapy Dogs is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving lives through the human-animal bond. Our volunteer therapy dog teams provide comfort, connection, and emotional support in schools, healthcare settings, libraries, senior communities, and other programs throughout West Michigan. Position Overview WMTD is seeking a creative, organized, and self-motivated Communications Intern passionate about storytelling and community engagement. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys creating meaningful content, connecting with people, sharing and strengthening the impact of therapy dog visits throughout West Michigan. The intern will support communications efforts, bring fresh ideas, and take ownership of projects that increase awareness of WMTD's mission. This opportunity is a great fit for students studying Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Journalism, Digital Media, Photography/Videography, Nonprofit Administration, or related fields seeking hand-on experience with a mission-driven organization. Key Responsibilities Capture and create photo, video, and written content highlighting therapy dog visits, volunteers, events, and community impact Manage digital communications, including social media platforms, website updates, organizational messaging, and other organizational content Design graphics and marketing materials using Canva or similar tools Support event planning & promotion, fundraising campaigns, volunteer outreach, and community engagement efforts Organize content libraries, research communications trends, and contribute new ideas to strengthen WMTD's visibility and mission awareness Preferred Qualifications Strong writing, communication, and time-management skills Creative thinker who enjoys storytelling and community engagement Self-starter who is comfortable working independently with minimal supervision Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines Comfortable working around dogs and attending community events Experience with Canva, social media management, photography/videography, video editing, WordPress, or content creation is preferred but not required Experience creating content for a student organization, nonprofit, business, or personal brand is a plus Passion for service, community involvement, and the healing power of animals What You'll Gain Real-world nonprofit communications, marketing, and event-planning experience Portfolio-building opportunities through content creation, storytelling, and campaign development Ownership of meaningful projects with the opportunity to contribute ideas and initiatives Networking opportunities with community partners, healthcare organizations, schools, libraries, and nonprofits Professional mentorship, feedback, and strong professional references Flexible work environment with opportunities to attend therapy dog visits and community events Commitment 10-15 hours per week Minimum one-semester commitment, preference for the entirety of the school year Hybrid/remote with occasional in-person meetings, therapy dog visits, and community events #J-18808-Ljbffr
